Do you prefer this guitar to the GS Mini now?
@easykrohn17 күн бұрын
@@BJJandBS i don’t generally prefer one over the other. They have different qualities. I prefer the martin acoustically, for studio recordings for example. I prefer the GS mini when playing live with my loop pedals because the GS Mini pick up handels percussive sounds way better than the LR Baggs. When playing live without my looper I kind of decide day by day which one I wanna play :)

Wow Easy!!! Great to see your post this morning. I love this song. You say that “these take so much time and effort” and that is obviously such a HUGE understatement - this must have been an INCREDIBLE amount of work!!! You’ve taken your music and your videos to a super high level! Where did you find such fantastic scenery over there without any people around? And is that a drone you’re using now? Your original songs are so well done. Your debut album will obviously be excellent! Looking forward to the rest of the songs. So well done Easy!!! Rick

Thanks so much Rick! 🫶 It was a good amount of work, yes, but very joyful work :) We filmed this at the cliff walk in Howth, Ireland. I spent a few days in Dublin a couple weeks ago and thought it'd be remiss not to film some kind of video over there. I had help filming this by a friend of a friend and she brought her drone out for this. I never shot with a drone before and it was super cool to see! Very thankful for her to film this with me. Glad you like it, too :)

@easykrohn C sharp major? Oh dear hahah I also play violin and can attest that is one of my least favorite keys to play in... If you played the guitar with capo 1, would that make it D sharp major? I've played with a couple of guitars and I always have to adjust the notes when they use capos. Thanks for answering!

This pickup is great! But be aware it is very sensitive and can easily be damaged if you’re rough on your guitars. With that said, if you do damage the pickup, you can get LR Baggs to repair it for you for cheap.

I'm putting one in a guitar that is an Ephiphone. My Martin DR Jr is an inexpensive guitar but plays well above it;'s cost. When you find one like that you don't care if your add ons cost more - if they sound great. That's how Guitar folks work!!
@easykrohnАй бұрын
Couldn't agree more!
@berry7usagiiАй бұрын
I just bought this guitar today! 🥰 but I haven’t found any lyrics either!!! 😭 Do you think it’s hidden somewhere? I fear it could be behind the pickup or something ToT so sad, I’m not a massive fan either but I also like some of Shawn’s music and I was a little heartbroken at not finding the lyrics 🥲 I got this guitar as a replacement for my dreadnought which I unfortunately am in the process of selling, as my tiny hands have failed and failed again to produce a perfect full barre chord (i.e. F, Fm, Gm etc.). My mom graciously handed down to me her vintage ‘72 000-28, which is a perfect size for me however I cannot bear the thought of damaging it on my outings and gigs - hence the Shawn Mendes 000-JR purchase. The guy at the store actually recommended I reserve the vintage Martin for recordings, and this new guitar is actually a really great size for traveling as well!! I used to be annoyed that these guitars that I wanted to buy did not come with the hard case my mom’s guitar came with, but the gig bags are so light and easy to carry on my roadtrips 🥹 if only I could busk with them! I believe a hard case is better for that haha 🙈
@easykrohnАй бұрын
Congrats on getting a new guitar! Great choice :) Oh interesting, you're the first other Shawn Mendes Jr owner that I hear from who also doesn't have the lyrics... I don't know, they might be hidden but I feel like more likely it's just a production error. Why would you hide them in a place where they can't be seen at all. It's supposed to be an easter egg that you're supposed to see when looking into your guitar... I absolutely get the Dreadnought problem, my hands wouldn't be able to get a good sounding barre chord out of them either. I love that the "junior"/smaller guitar market is growing and there are more and more options for us small handed people to choose from now. Wow, having access to a vintage 000-28 for sure is a blessing! And yes, I would agree with the guitar store guy to reserve this one for recordings. Totally understandable that you don't want to take that one out for each gig. Hope you're having lots of fun with you Shawn Mendes Junior :)

@@easykrohn thanks, I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far!! And yeah, so weird right??! I’m thinking of calling the store and asking them 🙈 I don’t want to be that person, and it’s not the end of the world but still 😩 and yes it doesn’t make sense to put it someplace you can’t see! 🥲 Yeah the 000-28 is so cool!! 🥹💛Especially since I grew up with this guitar, listening to it, to the little clasps on the case clanging against it as my mom opened it up, the sounds of her tuning it, are all sounds from my childhood. And now it’s in my possession, so surreal!!! My mom still has a D-35 which I’m certain my tiny hands would also fail to play 🥲 I assume she purchased this one in either the 70s or 80s as well! But the 000-JR is already proving to be a valuable addition to the family, being even smaller than my 000-28 means that it’s even easier to play too! Love the travel friendly size :) I would’ve bought the Baby Taylor (Swift edition) because I’ve been such a Taylor Swift mega fan since I was ten years old, but being the daughter of a Martin player has its influences 😂 I think I made the right choice but we all know I’ll get the Baby Taylor when I’m rich enough 🙈 It was really interesting and informative watching you compare the two, you’re absolutely right that it just comes down to personal preference and I do prefer the sound from the Martin (thankfully, since that’s the guitar I chose!). 💕 I’m surprised at how well and clear the sound rings from the smaller size. Hopefully my dreadnought will soon find a good new owner too, someone who is able to play it properly haha!

Very telling and helpful. Thank you for posting this, and especially for the cable comparison. As anticipated, there is an audible difference between the Lekato (or probably most wireless units) and the cable. That said, for many players that difference will be negligible.Not so for me, though. I find the guitar, in particular, loses some of its airiness and clarity, coming across as a wee bit more compressed and less „woody“. Still not bad, though. Curious how this unit compares with the XVive U2 (with 5 kHz).

What pick system do you use on your mandolin? It sounds great.
@easykrohnАй бұрын
I wish I could answer this but sadly I have no idea… a friend of mine put this on my mandolin and I never bothered to ask what exactly it is. All I can say is that it is some sort of piezo and the little passive pre amp module says „shadow“.
@11000038Ай бұрын
I use a very similar Lekato system on my fiddle. I was getting bad mains hum with a standard cable that I couldn't resolve. The wireless system is perfect and solves the mains hum. My pickup is a very old passive fishman that doesn't cause any buzzing. Sorted, and only a bit more expensive than a decent cable. I've mounted my pickup output on the lower bout which seems less intrusive to me. Now I can leap about while playing (says a 63yo with long COVID!!) Thanks for this video.
@easykrohnАй бұрын
That’s very interesting that a cable caused humming and the wireless system doesn‘t. Usually it’s the other way around 😅 but really nice that works for you. I find the wireless on the fiddle very liberating, too! Just way nicer than the cable dragging the otherwise pretty light instrument down all the time.
@11000038Ай бұрын
And you have a great voice too. Did you write the song?
@easykrohnАй бұрын
Thanks so much! Yes I did write that song and it's probably my favorite of all the songs I wrote. I will be releasing an official version of this song alongside my debut album in January :)
@11000038Ай бұрын
The piezo alone is pretty good. The mic sounds very thin. Combined I'm not sure the mic adds anything good but my listening kit isn't good and you could find that in the room is different. Don't be afraid to have strong opinions and to share them. It's what we want. Just as important is your nice playing and demeanor. Have you done a video on the bluesy tune? I'd watch that.
@easykrohnАй бұрын
I agree with you, the most "sound" is coming from the piezo. The mic alone sounds super thin and "tinny" but I do think when you blend it together, the mic adds some nice brilliance to the highs and the piezo still gives it the fullness in the lows. I feel like at the time I recorded this video I was a little over excited about the pick up. There are more pickups out there that are just as good or even better than this one. But also there really is no "better". It's just all preference. I'm still happy with this pickup in this guitar but I am excited to try out new things as well :)
@easykrohnАй бұрын
Oh and as for that bluesy tune - I think I learned this tune from another video on KZbin myself probably like 10 years ago and I actually just found it again! It's called "Rockin all over the world Acoustic Version Guitar Lesson by Siggi Mertens". If you type this into the search bar that video should pop right up :)
