I think that, and I appreciate I may be guilty of looking at 40 year old media with 2024 spectacles on, the biggest problem with the Doctor attempting to choke Peri is that it paints any later regret on the Doctor's part as akin to an abusive relationship, where a partner repeatedly shows remorse or appears to and then remains dangerous, with the victim remaining in a toxic relationship. If they'd just had the Doctor get paranoid that Peri could have been an alien spy...still with Turlough on his mind, perhaps...and start to rant about that without physically assaulting her, then that could have gotten the same point across in a less problematic way?

My own attitude to Caves is that it itself is epic, taut, suspenseful, almost operatic, and a great finale for Davison's Doctor. The problem was that it works as part of a varied palette, but its influence loomed so large over the following season that we didn't get enough light and shade in Season 22.

BTW - I'm lookng forward to when you guys get round to reviewing that appallingly bad Australian K9 series. The level of acting makes the average school play look like a production by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Oh god, it's terrible. The twins' can't act for shit. And their 'computers' are clearly Grandstand Scamble games. But did you guys notice that part of Jabba the Hutt's hookah was stuck to the big gold wall (and sprayed gold). It appears in a shot behind Colin Baker.
