Ginger was the voice I grew up hearing on the Speer Family albums of the late 50s and 60s. Of course many other fine ones followed her as time passed but she was always the voice I heard singing in my head!

Is Ginger related to the Speer's somehow? I just don't know anything about her. She is a great singer.

I remember the Speers coming to the monthly singing in the Limestone County courthouse In Athens, AL when Ginger was member of the group. I think it may have been about the time she met Wally Laxson of the singing Laxson family of Limestone Co. The were married and sang for some time as a duet. Some of the finest singing ever heard!

Thanks for the input. I have never heard of this Laxson family you mentioned. It is good to get a little history. Thanks again.

Having had the opportunity to work with Wally, visit with Wally & Polly in their Winter Haven, FL, they were so gracious. Not only was Wally a great pianist, he was also a composer, many of his songs were recorded with the Blackwood Brothers Wally Varner is one of my great heroes of Gospel Music 🎶 🎵 He and Jackie Marshall were UNSURPASSED! THANK GOD FOR THEIR IMPACT ON SO MANY LIVES!!

I was blessed to be sitting on the front row (in the green dress). Steve told the lady seating people that I was with them. The feeling I have now is difficult to explain.Thank you for sharing this with everyone, wish all of you could have heard them . I saw them many times as this group including a cruise went them. Jake asked my friends and I "Don't you all get tired of hearing these same old songs" No we didn't. I miss them and I can't thank you enough for sharing this I saw all of them in their groups for over maybe 40 years. I am a poor person but I have some wonderful memories of gospel music. I still have about 1000 of the large records.Sorry for the long comment, just so full of memories and dealing with medical issues.I thank God for the close relationship with them and their families.

There is coming a day, When no heart aches shall come, No more clouds in the sky, No more tears to dim the eye, All is peace forever more, On that happy golden shore, What a day, glorious day that will be. What a day that will be, When my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon His face, The One who saved me by His grace; When He takes me by the hand, And leads me through the Promised Land, What a day, glorious day that will be. There’ll be no sorrow there, No more burdens to bear, No more sickness, no pain, No more parting over there; And forever I will be, With the One who died for me, What a day, glorious day that will be. What a day that will be, When my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon His face, The One who saved me by His grace; When He takes me by the hand, And leads me through the Promised Land, What a day, glorious day that will be.
