I kind of hate every single thing about this scene. The dwarves are ignorant, elvish cuisine is somehow vegetarian, elven music is just... normal tavern music, guests sit on the floor at low tables, the elves are portrayed to be androgynous and effeminate rather than dimorphic but universally beautiful, and the elves are portrayed to be teetotalers rather than another people who enjoyed meat and wine and on occasion raucous parties that any mortal would find to test the limits of their bodies, from dancing to song to drinking. I do not remember Gandalf apologizing to Elrond, nor anything but a close kinship between them as they had known each other for an absurdly long time, no matter which books you read. The dwarves may have preferred the songs of their kinfolk but they were hardly alien to pipe-music or grown food. The elven blades recovered from the troll trove have no visual similarity to each other and Orcrist barely makes sense. Ever-wise and friendly Balin doesn't say anything like 'lmao your sword isn't worthy,' Bilbo just never brings up his dagger to Elrond. Dwarves' greed was for fine stones and metals from the earth, not for stolen elven pepper-shakers. Literally nobody ever turned to anyone, much less an elf, and treated them like a jukebox. I don't know about throwing food, but the elves of the Last Homely House would hardly have been unfamiliar with dwarven music, given that they had been staunch allies and friends with the dwarves before. This is a travesty. How, _how_ did PJ go from a masterful adaptation cutting down and changing LotR for film, preserving so much of the magic, wonder, and majesty, to _this_?
