Orioles were winners, and here’s why: Orioles major issue for this race with NY is starting pitching depth and back end relief. The Orioles are a young team that is extremely momentum driven in games, and 9/10 games are decided in the first 4 innings. In games where their 3-5 starters allow 4 runs in the first 3 innings, and 0 in the latter 3 innings, the Orioles lose, but in games where that is reversed, they win. This was on full display in the double header against Toronto. Rogers and Efflin will generate a lot of Orioles wins as pitchers that tend to give up runs in later innings versus early innings. Then there’s the bullpen, which these starter additions send Suarez to the bullpen who has had an electric season and shows all the makings of being an absolutely dominate reliever like his brother in San Diego. We also get to see McDermott as a reliever who has tremendous swing and miss stuff, but control issues have made him a mediocre starter bc walks lead to big innings. As a reliever, he won’t be in the game long enough to have that become a problem. So now we have a closer by committee set up with Suarez, Dominguez, Soto and McDermott unless one of them shows complete and utter dominance to win the role, which makes this a victory for Baltimore in either scenario. Elias has already said he will pick up Dominguez’s option for 2025 so Rogers, Efflin, Dominguez and Soto will all be Orioles next year as well when Bradish and Bautista return from injury. The only rentals the Orioles acquired are depth position players that we will not miss at all next year, and we didn’t give up any good prospects for these rentals, but Elias did replenish the young pitching prospect depth with Patrick Reilly who is pitching to a sub 2 ERA in high A this year. This trade deadline was successful for Baltimore that not only are they now head and shoulders above every other AL team, but they might have taken care of next years trade deadline as well where we the only needs we will have are going to come from injuries. The most important reason why this deadline was a massive success is in the information between the lines, and that’s the fact that the Orioles did not go get a top of the rotation starter which means Rubenstein intends to stand by his previous statements and make a significant splash this winter with a big contract to Corbin Burnes and a moderately big contract to Santander as they are the only Orioles entering free agency next year aside from Ryan O’Hearn, Danny Coulombe and Craig Kimbrel. O’Hearn and Coulombe will almost certainly be back in 2025 and if Kimbrel proves to be an effective to elite middle reliever, he’s likely to get a corresponding contract as well because bringing this entire team back while Bautista and Bradish return from injury and Kjerstad, Holliday and Mayo become everyday position players will likely make the Orioles the favorites to win the fall classic in 2025 out of Spring, as well as the #1 team in the preseason power rankings of 2025. All the Orioles need is a deep October this season to turn this team into a dynasty where a game 7 ALCS loss or a World Series loss will be a massive season win for the organization, but these moves have given them the chance to find a spark in October and run the table like Texas did last year which will, in my opinion, all but guarantee a World Series repeat in 2025. The fact that people are saying the Orioles didn’t do what they could have done this deadline and gone all in for 2024 is exactly what this team needs, and that’s people underestimating them and failing to recognize how good they actually are which led to 101 wins last year, and can easily lead to a massive October this year. Look out for Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg this postseason bc they’re going to be announcing their presence as perennial playoff performers this October, joining Gunnar Henderson who is 6 for 12 with a homer in 3 career postseason games. Orioles 2024 Postseason Roster(40): SP: Burnes, Rodriguez, Efflin, Rogers BP: Kremer, Suarez, Coulombe, Perez, Cano, Kimbrel, Dominguez, Soto, Akin, Webb Lineup: Cowser CF, Rutschman C, Henderson SS, Santander RF, O’Hearn DH, Westburg 3B, Kjerstad LF, Mountcastle 1B, Holliday 2B Bench Players: Mullins, Mayo, Urias, Pache, Mateo, Jimenez, Slater, L. Soto, McCann Bench Pitchers: McDermott, Tate, Povich, Baker, Smith, Zimmerman, Avila, Vespi That is the deepest, most effective roster in the American League by far, with only the Phillies being slightly better from a 26 man perspective on paper, but that has not translated to the field at all this year for Philly with their record being, in large, due to sub .500 opponents and home wins as they have posted a 27-22 road record with a 30-25 record against teams over .500 with 23 of those wins coming against teams less than 10 games over .500. The Orioles may not have made the moves people wanted them to make or the moves they potentially could have made, but they absolutely did everything to take them from potentially #1 in the AL to absolutely #1 in the AL.

Here's what I'll say about the Rangers. The moves they made were minimal in terms of what they cost the Rangers and still made the team better. I also get the sellers market, but the question I have as a fan is what do we even need? Young SP sure, Leiter, Winn and White have all MASSIVELY disappointed, but they haven't quit on Leiter, Kumar Rocker is back and Emiliano Teodo is lighting AA on fire. All 3 could factor into the 25 rotation and I think the Rangers would like at least one to do so. Evo may also be back in 25 due to his weird vesting option. Then in the field the question is asked, where's the opening? Langford is going to play LF, Carter is out for the year but is seen as the future at LF. Rangers just took 2 solid OF prospects in round 2 and 3 of the draft. Infield is locked unless they decide to move Lowe in the offseason. Factor in resurgent Josh Smith and Josh Jung at 3rd there just isn't a spot for an upgrade. I know the sellers market went crazy, but I also don't think the Ranger would have gotten an offer that would have moved the needle enough to be better than what they have both at the major league level both current (guys like Jung seager semien) and future (Langford Carter) and future prospective (Teodo Leiter Rocker).

But he’s also susceptible to disappearing for months at a time. He gets pub for the 20/20, his big stage heroics and huge personality..but the Rays won this trade before we even know who the PTBNL is

While in the editing process, the Orioles would acquire Gregory Soto for Seth Johnson and Moises Chace. In my opinion, this is a slight overpay by the Orioles, and doesn’t change the winners or losers portion for both the the Phillies and Orioles. If anything, it just makes the cases stronger
@TheOrangeCorner
@TheOrangeCorner 2 күн бұрын
Disagree firmly. You’re not reviewing this properly, imo. First, Elias has already said they’ll be picking up Dominguez’s option for 2025 so Rogers, Efflin, Dominguez and Soto will all be Orioles in 2025. Next, the majority of Orioles’ losses this year are a result of starting pitching, and the Orioles are a team that win or lose in the first 4 innings. Efflin and Rogers give up a majority of their runs when facing lineups the 2nd and 3rd times so when Efflin gave up 3 in his debut, he had a 6 run lead which means these two starters will bring in a lot more Orioles wins. Third, these additions sends Suarez to the bullpen and will likely lead to McDermott being tested in the bullpen who has tremendous swing and miss stuff with control issues so he could be a great reliever. At this point the Orioles have Suarez, Domingue, Soto and possibly McDermott competing for the closer role which means one of them will have to be absolutely lights out in that role to earn the spot over the next two months. This also sends Kimbrel down to a middle reliever giving you a quality reliever available situationally. Do not forget the Orioles have arguably their best reliever this year, Danny Coulombe, returning September 1st. The O’s also added a very good righty hitter for pinch, high leverage situations making their depth even more ridiculous. Next, trading Norby brings Holliday to the show, who hit a grand slam, and a 3 run homer that was taken away from him, in his first game back. The O’s also replenished their pitching prospect depth with Patrick Reilly who looks really good this year with new developments. Lastly, it is clear with these trades that Rubenstein, new team owner, intends to make his statement this offseason by signing Corbin Burnes. The Orioles made the moves that take them from the potential favorites of the AL this year to being the hands down favorites without question when you compare the oppositions. More importantly, with free agent contracts going to Burnes, Santander and O’Hearn/Coulombe, this entire team returns next year with the additions of Bradish and Bautista from injury, and Kjerstad, Holliday and Mayo becoming everyday players in 2025. The Orioles could not have been bigger winners from this deadline bc they did not sacrifice any talent they couldn’t afford to lose, they didn’t overpay for anyone bc all of the players they acquired have multiple years of team control regarding the players they gave up good prospects to acquire, and they completely fulfilled all of their gaps with the only question mark being who will be the full-time closer, but they have the ability to go closer by committee now that they have 2 new high quality arms in Soto and Domínguez with guys like Kimbrel, Cano and Coulombe who will be just as effective in the 9th if they’re used appropriately(Kimbrel against the bottom of the order, Cano against higher K rate hitters, Coulombe against multiple lefties). For conclusive evidence, look at the Orioles double header against Toronto where Efflin gives up 3, but does so after multiple scoreless innings leading to a big lead, whereas Povich gives up runs early and takes the wind out of our sails when the same runs allowed, just later in the game, would have clearly resulted in an Orioles win. Your review of the Orioles deadline moves just tells me you didn’t talk to anyone that watches the Orioles everyday and that you don’t personally know the Orioles that well either, because the only way it could have gone better would have been if they didn’t acquire Slater and L. Soto, and when is depth for virtually nothing(player to be named later or cash)in return a real problem? If this message is too long for you, I am about to post a summary comment for the Orioles now on this video.

Yandy Diaz and Cody Bellinger to Seattle for Taj Peete, Micheal Arroyo, Tyler Gough, Aiden Smith, and Ben Williamson. Well, you didn't give away the top prospects, which is good... I don't know. The Mariners need to acquire players with mental toughness and a truly competitive, championship mentality. We have the rotation to win it all. Our offense is feeble minded. All they do is strike out or pop up.

The Tigers are on a tear recently. The offense has finally come around, but they need a bat or two, established players. They also need a strikeout guy in the pen. NO WAY SHOULD THEY TRADE SKUBAL. I also wish they would extend Flaherty. They need to ensure Skubal that Detroit is the place for him to be happy. Find offense, longterm. Also, good defense. When they score more than 2 runs, their winning % is phenominal.

My biggest complaint for the Ranger’s deals is the lack of MLB ready talent coming back. I think you listed some names of intrigue, but a lot of the deals feel pretty whelming. I don’t think the Rangers would deal Jon Gray because of the extra year of control, you could maybe flip and use Andre Heaney instead. The thing to consider with the Rangers is although this is a down year, if they do decide to sell it would seem much more like a retool than rebuild. Rangers are going to be in the hunt to compete next year as well. I’m not sure they’d have much interest in guys who haven’t even passed A ball yet. I know you added Armbruester in the O’s deal, but he’s been horrid in AAA and the Rangers are not a team who can really “fix Pitchers” so j feel like we’d be getting a guy who we could never get the most out of and then turn out to be nothing more than a guy whose up for a couple of games and then sent down (repeat) until he’s DFA’d.

Not nearly enough for Tyler Anderson who has been one of the top pitchers in baseball-- this is the same performance he had with Dodgers, so it's not a one-off. He has 9-wins at the halfway mark for a team playing .400 baseball-- he has 20% of the team's total wins. Lara is 5'8" and 155lbs with ZERO power. The Angels will get at least one premium prospect for Anderson, who is only being paid $13M and is under contract next year as well-- so he's not a rental and he is a bargain financially. I can see Anderson going to prospect rich Baltimore. And maybe the Angels package him with Estevez to get an elite prospect.

the thing is he is over performing his expected stats (4.42 xERA) and doesn’t strike that many guys out. we learned from the off-season (ex: jordan montgomery) how the league devalues pitchers without high strike out numbers
@bhbecca
@bhbecca 13 күн бұрын
@@AndItsGone I've watched every single one of his starts. That stat doesn't apply to him. He's a teaser and the walk is in his game. He was #1 in WAR for any pitcher this year and he's pitching 7 innings regularly-- one of the leaders. You can find any stat to run any pitcher down, and I understand what you're saying, but he's pitched at elite level so far. It's real. He's had one bad game this year-- take that game away and he has sub 2.50 ERA. He keeps hitters off balance and out-thinks them. Of the winning pitchers TRULY available at the deadline, he's going to be the most attractive. He's steady, a lefty, pitching deep into games every start and he's so cheap cost wise that teams like KC can go after him. $13M a season for a guy pitching like this is nothing.
@tylerbenlien6093

@bhbecca

@@tylerbenlien6093 I don't agree at all. What was Greg Maddux's stuff? I can go through a whole list of lefties who didn't have stuff who won. He had the same dominant year with the Dodgers two years ago. His fastball sits at 89mph, so if you want to break him down like that-- yeah, no big deal. The problem is he gets guys out consistently with his stuff. His change is his pitch. Even when they know it's coming they can't hit it or they make off balance contact. It breaks three different ways. He spots his fastball on the black. His numbers aren't luck. It's fun watching him pitch because he really pitches. Up, down, in, out and constantly changing speeds. Use the eye test my friend-- tremendous pitcher to add to a playoff roster and who is a veteran and will fit in seamlessly. Could be very valuable to the Yankees, Dodgers and Orioles heading into the playoffs.
