What? This is BS. The lubricant is not because the head and block are aluminum. That is a steel nut going onto a steel stud. The lube is for the purpose of consistent torque and thus, stretch in the stud. I actually don't know why Alfa says to retorque the head nuts. Do they loosen? If so, then use Schnorr ribbed safety washers, which will keep the nuts from backing out. If those are old studs in the block, then they are already work hardened through stretching and don't need to be stretched again. This procedure was invented before effective locknuts were developed. You could even use nyloc nuts, or safety wire the head nuts to prevent them from loosening.

Such a pity its Super Rhino stickers have been replaced by Super Roo versions. There’s no shame - actually some pride, probably - in being a unique version of the original.

I tend to agree. It’s like all the replica GTs made up of GS and 500s, 15-20 years ago. I’m much more excited to see GS graphics running down the side with a few GT add ons than yet another GT clone.

Two came up on Marketplace the other day. Been sitting in a blokes yard along with two 504s and a GS + sheds full of parts. The fella clearing the house wants $3000 for the lot to help pay for old people’s home costs. I tried to get Germain on board to buy the Fuegos with me but we don’t have the storage. Told Tim on the island we should build something with one but he said he’d disown me if I bought one. I don’t understand, he loves TR7s. Bet he’s never sat in a Fuego though. That’d change his mind. There’s another green 308 under the covers. Absolutely sublime

I gather at the time of filming that the car was 41? years of age so it's only natural that parts will need replacing especially parts with rubber for they perish with age whether they've been used or not. These people restoring the car to it's former glory are taking a lot of TLC in the work they're performing and the car is in safe hands. I remember these when I was younger and I always preferred the red with gold snowflake wheels to any other colour. The last one made was silver with gold wheels and although alright it's just that, it's alright. But the red and gold is a real head turner. I have a Falcon that less than half the age of this car so it's not up to "Barn Find" status yet. Thank you for taking the trouble to show us all this much appreciated.

For me Dave this has been the most enjoyable - and thought provoking - video you've produced to date. Listening to Vyvian tell his life story in the industry...and the hard times the industry has fallen on in Australia...really brings home how consecutive governments and multinational corporations since the 70's have been effectively abandoning our working youth for generations already - and will be long into the future it seems. As an Aussie car fan since that time I have a fair idea about what and how this has happened. But it's astonishing that most people I speak to about it are completely oblivious to the crisis. I've been strongly encouraging my sixteen year old son to get into this industry as an apprentice. And after witnessing Vyvian explain the passion he has for his incredible work - I'd love to see my son reap such rewards. Thanks Dave.

There’s not many parents like you out there. I hear most parents along with teachers and peers, actively discourage taking up an automotive trade. I’ve seen even heard it from a Porsche specialist who doesn’t want his son following in his footsteps. How’s that work? If a kid shows any kind of passion for anything nowadays, encourage them. Keep an eye out for future chat on this very subject from the Australian Austomotive Heritage Assn. I’ve been badgering them to get on board with the issue (not to mention every Skills and Training Minister in the land), and hope a forum may be addressing the situation at Motors and Masterpieces. This country needs a Heritage Skills academy first and foremost.

The 7* series range of landcruisers runs rings around any LR product. I went offroading with an LR owner . We both had 1995 vintages 4x4. Mine was a 75 series with a 1HZ 6cyl diesel n/a , his had a turbo 4 cyl. He couldnt keep up off or on road. I dont hate the series landrovers, they look cool and go ok offroad, but are not the best allrounder. I had that 75 series for 8 years. Replaced the windscreen washer pump and an alternator at 300000klms.
