While watching what was achieved during his swimming analogy, I was impressed with how he demonstrated a slow-motion, good-safety, easy-to-see version of the normally wilder, spaced-further-apart, chaotic-bodies-slamming-all-over-the-mat type of full-speed randori. The biggest visual difference here looked like his swimming version had a smaller radius compared to the usual version of randori which takes up half the room. The more students present who can practice something safely at the same time, the more productive the class period is. I need to introduce this into the club where I practice.

ridiculous nonsense.
@alg3rn0n733 жыл бұрын
Stupid. "Working the centers... now make sure that when you come at me it's not with any real intent or physical contact of any real kind or else me wagging your arm over while touching your shoulder won't end up looking as cool as when you completely go along with my half assed movements." Geeeez I'm glad we're over this now
@hornylorney81504 жыл бұрын
Absolutely embarrassing and actually dangerous to be making people think they can defend themselves with this nonsense. Someone feinted a jab at your head then shot for your legs you wouldn't know what to do...let alone if someone threw a jab cross roundhouse head kick combo. Please realise this is all meaningless nonsense in the world of fighting and self defense.

not loads of crap, he actually has some good advice in this video. Randori is really about Zoning these guys so your only dealing with one at a time. Our Randori is brutal and eventually you always go down and you get a pile of people on you. But Zoning is what keeps you up longer. Using them against themselves and your foot work is what keeps you, for a while, from fighting more than one at a time. I like using someone as a shield for a while then tossing them into another person. Eventually they don't want to play with you and they start to question coming in on you. This is what you want in real life, them questioning weather its worth the pain and anguish to get to you. Of course my style of Aikido is more like Aikijitsu so we tend to be more real and rough than a normal Aikido dojo.
@alg3rn0n733 жыл бұрын
If you believe you're going to "zone" 4 grown men in a real life scenario you're crazy. This is a clown show of non resistant students doing exactly what they're told to do. The only thing to take from this is that some people like to feel included in dangerous activities without putting themselves in danger.

I just bought Sensei Gleason's Seminar DVD Eastside from budovideo and just wanted to say that it is well worth the money. His explains and demonstrates the techniques in a organized and easy to follow manner. This DVD is starting to catch on in the Aikido circles in that I noticed it is even available for rent online from goldstarvideo.

Interesting. I've never seen two-sword techniques before. (I also haven't been to too many seminars...) I didn't realize how different the weapon styles really could be. This is Saotome Sensei's style correct?
@langying12 жыл бұрын
I have to say, this was very interesting to see. I never knew there was a nitto-ryu in Aikido as well. Goes to show the use of two swords is more common than I thought.

Perhaps this videographer is not filming action from varied angles.It seem from the video that there apppears to be the possibility of Ai Uchi [Mutual strike]especially in the movements related to Waki Gamae.I would have appreciated a better view of overall motion.May I also say that the man with the pony tail and beard is inclined to let his partner see his sword while he is in Waki Gamae?

@gledyard So similar to the sword, a line from the hara out the tip, a line through the left hand, or rear hand, about 45 degrees into the earth, and then a line up from the head, down from the spine, and one out the back from the hara. Cool. Watched your videos on the Kazeutabudokai channel, great stuff! You should package that on DVD's and sell it. Best explanation of how energy actually works that I've seen. Well, off to my Aikido class! Keep the videos coming! Domo arigato gozaimasu sensei!

@budomaster11 And you make such blanket statements why?
@theomen4913 жыл бұрын
@towag Actually that last statement is true. If the aikidoist is good, the attacker is throwing himself, the aikido practitioner is just there to help him out. Try aikido before saying its all crap, you'll realize that there is nothing fake about it at all.
@theomen4913 жыл бұрын
@budomaster11 say that to Ledyard Sensei, or Saotome Sensei, or Ikeda sensei, or countless other 6-8th dan aikido practitioners. You'll find that you will never be able to hit or resist them.

@danktat I bought a sword from Sensei Goldberg. Small Aiki-world isn't it? I just love the way Ikeda Shihan teaches
@TenteixSaigo13 жыл бұрын
@towag It's principles, not techniques. As an MMA fighter, I find it very useful. It teaches moving off his center and out of his attack. It's very useful PRINCIPLE for getting past someone's reach. If you trained and had any ability to listen, you'd know that. Most people just want to punch and kick, but might I remind you that Royce Gracie won UFC without even throwing a punch?

As a Muay Thai fighter out of OKC I can tell you every single thing you just mentioned will be taught thoroughly by a good training coach/coaches, while learning the art of fighting without wasting your much needed time on a "style" built solely around "dancing" around non-resistant students. This video is garbage

@jacobharris954 It's called a Walther PDP Pro X with binary trigger in the hands of a highly trained defender because I'm a grown man who lives in the real world and doesn't rely on my competition Muay Thai backgrounds to save me and my family from multiple attackers who likely also have at least one weapon among them. Grow up jacob... I'll wait...

@budomaster11 You're assuming that him being fat is a handicap. It isn't exactly HEALTHY, but it's not really disrespectful to himself. It could be a combination of genetics and a western diet. Most foods you get have a lot of fat, and if he's not designed to process it, it builds up. That weight is an advantage in jujitsu or judo from the top. it allows him to rest and trap the other person on the ground with ease. You call yourself a master, but you obviously are an amateur.

George Ledyard - Sensei is one of the best people anywhere to work with for tuning up randori practices as well as weapons work. Nothing tricky or fancy, just solid work. He teaches several four-day intensives each year on the subject. Highly recommended. Iron Horse America produced this film. It highlights the use of weapons as a teaching tool for 'empty hand' martial arts work, that goes way beyond aikido. Anyone interested in martial arts would benefit. Pick up a copy.

There is nothing about this that even closely resembles quality information. 4 grown men who are seeking. To harm you are not going to be "zoned" into each other because you practice "side stepping" for a living. This is a non resistant exercise led by a man who seemingly would crumble into pieces at the second of facial impact from a solid blow. These students are in this video because they willingly go along with this.
