Im getting my pectus fixed in 3 days by a new procedure called Pectus Up. It’s much less invasive and the recovery is easier and faster. It’s currently available in Europe and some other countries, not in the US yet tho.

I was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and never had this surgery done. It is unnecessary. My teeth are fine, and my speech as well - I also can speak Chinese fluently. My son was born with a unilateral CL & P and I am not having him go through this surgery. It is irresponsible to put a child through an unnecessary surgery that will result in such physical and emotional pain after.

Amazon has them, and its sold by a good retailer, and before purchase they ask for all of your measurements and pictures as I am having trouble breathing and irregular heartbeat literally doing nothing. I'm 31 and have always had a minor dent, however some reason this year its affected me, and never has before.

@@mayurdholi946I had it done at CHKD about 13 years ago. Was in the hospital for about a week and was pretty limited for 3-6 months. High impact activities were pretty out of the question while the bars were still in. Stuff like football more than anything else, don’t know about boxing. The removal of the bars was an outpatient surgery. Depending on the severity of the condition you can experience some pretty noticeable differences. Definitely had what seemed like increased lung capacity and just overall felt like I wasn’t struggling as much physically as before

It's strange. I have Ehlers-danlos. When I was very young, there was really no highly noticeable pectus ex. It was somewhere about in middle school that I started to notice and became self-conscious about it but I didn't know what it really was, just that my chest looked weird. My parents had no idea. When I told them when I was 42 years old, they were surprised and said if they had known or had seen it, would probably have done something. I think it just got worse over year. I wasn't born with anything noticeable. I can't tell in any pictures from when i was younger. Sad if I can't fix it now. It really makes me self-conscious more than ever. Even when I was 200 lbs and jacked, I didn't like the look.

@@QuickMadeUpName Naturally, you need to put on more pressure compared to someone in their early teens. Otherwize, there is no difference. The older you get, the longer your stenrum will stay up after removing the bell. It will hurt a lot after using it the first few times, but eventually your skin is going to get more used to it.
Just a little bit unrelated, but Dr Nuss performed surgery on me when I was 12 years old (1990) for a pilonidal cyst at the bottom of my spinal cord. I was in SO MUCH pain! I couldn’t sit, stand, walk, or even crawl without feeling like I was going to pass out from the pain. When Dr Nuss saw me on President’s Day that year, he cleared his schedule and prepared for surgery right away! I was so impressed by his care. Fast-forward to me waking up in recovery and I was on a bad drug trip from all the pain killers they had to give me. I legitimately thought I was dying. I was told that during surgery, in which I was completely under anesthesia, I was kicking and screaming from the pain. I don’t remember any of it, thank goodness. Nurses said what I went through was worse than childbirth pain!! Dr Nuss told my mom the cyst around the bottom of my spinal cord was the size of a baseball, and the affected area was the size of a basketball. When they cut me open, it just kept draining and draining. Apparently it was so bad, they cleaned it out as best as possible, then scheduled the sac to be removed a few months later. The pain relief was immediate and I was so grateful to Dr Nuss and the team at CHKD who took care of me. I don’t remember the anesthesiologist’s name, but I remember he had pretty eyes. 😂 It took me a very long time to heal because of off-and-on again tunnel infections. But finally at age 21, the skin completely closed up and I haven’t had any drainage since. I’m now 46 years old, and I still remember Dr Nuss to this day. 💖 If you ever read this Dr Nuss, thank you. I truly believe you saved my life that day in 1990!
