Alan is a great person. I put part of my system together with HIFI buys and upgraded over time. I bought from various dealers upgrading my system over time. Have Sonus Faber Aida 2's for loud speakers, audioquest dragon cables, 2 VAC 452 IQ musicblocks one to each Sonus Faber, VAC pre-amplifier, DCS APEX Vivaldi stack. Pro-tip: Rather than alot of power conditioners you often if possible can get better sound upgrading to copper bus electrical panel and then running 10 gage copper romex to dedicated electrical outlets. You can put master surge protector on the house or electrical panel itself. If you are in an apartment or place it's not practical than power conditioners can make sense although I have found they can actually be a negative sometimes for very high end gear that already has that built in.

We use iPads at the store for everything except the CH Precision app because it is currently only available on Android (we have a Lenovo tablet we use for that). The tablets do not hold any music though and just function as a remote control of sorts. We are currently running a Roon server to control playback of just about every system in the store.

@@HiFiBuys Roon definitely makes sense for you guys, with the variety and volume of systems that you operate. I might give the CH Precision app a try as I'm Android. @tima.478 the CH Precision app only connects to their products for setup and control. What streamer are you using? That will determine what apps will work for you. Using Tidal Connect (and the Qobuz equivalent when available) is probably the best option if you don’t like the native app for your streamer, and most apps will run on either iPad or Android tablets so there are plenty of options. Give us a call or stop by sometime if you want to get more specific. All the best!

@HiFiBuys
@HiFiBuys Ай бұрын
Based strictly on sound quality, I would go with the Luxman, but it is 4x the price of the most expensive EverSolo, so it’s not an entirely fair comparison. For more specific recommendations, I’d need more information…for example, the EverSolo would likely handle Apple Music better since the Luxman doesn’t support that service natively. Agreed, not a fair comparison, i sold my Luxman NT-07 due to eArc cracking noise issues with a Sony TV only. It works fine with other TV brands. This is not acceptable for such an expensive streamer. Hence will try A8 and see how it fits into my system. Thanks

It can be debunked in one second flat. Ready for it? Ok here we go. 1. Instruments in a live performance are not all lined up. They are scattered. 2. End of discussion class.
@HiFiBuys
@HiFiBuys Ай бұрын
Not sure what this has to do with time and phase alignment of speakers. Are you suggesting that each driver in a speaker corresponds to a specific instrument in a performance? And so must be "scattered" to accurately reproduce a performance? The sound of a snare hit, or a singer's voice, contains a broad range of frequencies (and engage multiple drivers simultaneously when played back) yet those individual sounds come from a single point in space when performed. If the drivers aren't time and phase aligned, then the illusion of that recorded sound when played back will be less convincing than it would be if they are. Convincing placement of multiple distinct instruments throughout a soundstage is the central benefit of time and phase aligned speakers.
@theguyjt7921
@theguyjt7921 4 күн бұрын
So a recording being done at a point in space can't be misrepresented by a speaker not being aligned to the recording? Sounds like your thoughts aren't aligned.

I always wanted a button for "standing" and "sitting".... most speakers are made for sitting. I like standing.
@HiFiBuys
@HiFiBuys Ай бұрын
Setting up speakers properly takes into account your listening position's distance from the speakers as well as your height. With Vandersteens specifically, all of their speakers are tripods with a single spike in the back of the speaker for setting the amount of rake to properly align the drivers for your listening position. You could easily set them up to sound best while standing instead of sitting, but it's much more difficult to make changing the position of the speakers as simple as the press of a button.
@scottwheeler2679
@scottwheeler2679 Ай бұрын
You absolutely can make 2nd, 3rd,4th order and higher crossovers that are both time and phase aligned. You have to do it with DSP.
@HiFiBuys
@HiFiBuys Ай бұрын
Absolutely! Sorry if we suggested otherwise. Every speaker design is a series of compromises and one of Vandersteen's central design choices is to do everything in the analog domain, which means no DSP. We have yet to find a DSP-controlled system that connects with us emotionally the way that Vandersteen speakers can. There are advantages and disadvantages to any approach, and at the end of the day, all that matters is that you enjoy listening, no matter the equipment or design choices!

Very informative chat. Thanks! During room setup with the equalizer, is that done using calibration equipment that tweaks for the room variations and then with that baseline, an individual's listening preference can be inputted (either with the owner's preamp or using the speaker's equalizer)? I ask because of my diminished hearing at certain frequencies. Thanks.
@HiFiBuys
@HiFiBuys Ай бұрын
Hi Ed! Thanks for watching! The setup is done using a series of test tones that correspond to the individual potentiometers on the back of the speaker's bass amplifier. We run tones through each speaker individually, and then again together, while measuring sound pressure levels at the listening position using an analog RadioShack SPL meter (nothing fancy), and then adjust the pots on the speakers to correct for any bass anomalies caused by the room. This adjustment is done to compensate for issues with bass response at the listening position and not to adjust for more/less bass according to personal preference. We are only adjusting frequencies from 120-200 Hz (depending on the model) and below during this process, so this is not intended as a replacement for a full-band EQ.

Yup do Vandersteens. If I had the choice over 20 years ago it would have been difficult. I ended with my Medowlark Kestrel powered by Antique Sound Labs fully tube stereo amp. The beautiful part is then you can get an integrated amp for (at most) 4.1 theatre system. Get those amazing from LR and great amp. After that you can put together anything you want. Even wait a couple of months and save for those speakers you really want Going on 22 years with my Meadowlarks and I don't want anything else. My big advice ... don't continue chasing and buying and selling. Pay more for those great front speakers and they will last for 20... 30 or so years.

These are great tips for getting into a superb stereo without "breaking the bank." I appreciate your comments about the Vandersteen 1Ci+ "disappearing." To clarify, this is very challenging to accomplish, and it is a combination of a speaker design that transitions between its drivers without a hiccup that draws attention back to the speaker, a great combination of electronics, cables, stands, and the essential dealer set up in your room. If any of these are off, it suspends the musician performing in the venue to realizing you are in your living room with a stereo system. For nearly 50 years now, the aesthetics of the introductory Vandersteen products have allowed us to reach sonic performance way above the price point and have a cost-effective finish that can be restored to like-new aesthetics for little cost. The caps come in a wide variety of veneer finishes as well. Luckily for Vandersteen, the "vintage" look is in again!
