I've a question for Prof Lennox. I understand 1) that initial impetus for the General Theory of Evolution was an attempt to "release science from the Bible"/God (Charles Lyell), 2) that likewise Evolution has attained a status of 'the only reasonable explanation' of the origin of the Universe predominantly through the insistence and activity of atheists, and 3) that evo-atheists are so deeply driven by their anti-God hubris and foolishness as to consider the crazy idea of 'metaphysical naturalism' reasonable. My question is this, given the above, when evo-atheists also scoff at Young Earth Creationism - mightn't that be just more of the same vacuous, irrational, unsubstantiated anti-God hubris and foolishness? If so, why don't more Old Earth Creationists take the YEC perspective more seriously? and at least investigate it thoroughly?

Faith is not a synonym for belief. Faith is a reason people give for believing something when they don't have any good evidence. Otherwise, they would just give the evidence. (Credit to Matt Dillahunty)

Ms. Poplin, it is true Catholicism is a religion. Conversely, Christianity is a relationship! In the Catholic religion, a saint is someone who must meet certain criterion such as performing miracles. In Christianity, the only thing required is the accept Jesus as your Savior. I wasn't aware The Veritas Forum was Catholic inclined... unsubscribing.

What I find interesting is that in all the people Jesus healed they may have gone on to live normal healthy lives but eventually in the end they died physically of something. Medicine on one level plays a key role in alleviating illness, but it has always been temporary and to some advantage has always been capitalized monetarily. The higher purpose for God was to provide a means for a permanent spiritual restoration for humanity; unfortunately, when sin entered the world all corruption and deterioration began- and a separation between God and mankind. Whether you believe in God or not humankind will always try to whitewash the world. Sorry about any misplaced pronouns 🤪

I don't have a theological education. All I know about the Bible is what I read. And I'm thankful in a way I didn't have anyone to interpret it for me. I read Genesis 1 as the Earth was made "in the Beginning" . No definite age. It was formless and void. Empty. No such thing as a "day" until God said "let there be light". Then each day each new thing was added to support the next thing to be created. Finally; the Bible doesn't say the Earth is 6000 years old; carbon dating says there is no lifeform on Earth older than 6000 years. The Jewish calendar dates back to Adam, the first human and it says 5700 and some years.

When I heard RC Sproul call Wright a heretic I had to investigate it for myself. He was right. Jesus told Nicodemus no one can see or enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless they be born again. Jesus also clearly taught that his kingdom was not of this world. I could go on and on but Wright is a heretic and a big sniveling weasel that is fooling many. Fellow saints, be careful with him.

The Bible says it's a SIN to be vegetarian. 'doctrines of devils ... commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving. ' 1 Timothy 4 1-3 'He who is weak in faith eats vegetables only' - Romans 14 2 'Eat anything that is sold in the meat market, without asking questions for conscience' sake.' 1 Cor. 10 25

That the ‘miraculous/supernatural’ (things above and beyond ‘nature’) should be a stumbling block to anyone in this day and age is incomprehensible. Any attempt by either theists or anti-theists to provide an answer to how the following five happened “all on its own” quickly establishes that both parties believe that ‘magic happens’ i.e. there are no scientifically proven mechanisms which can explain the following: • All matter and energy, all on its own, came into existence from ‘nothing’. • All matter and energy, all on its own, fine-tuned itself then maintained those settings enabling carbon-based life to exist. • All matter and energy, all on its own, formed itself into the cosmos as we see it including our own solar system. • ‘Dumb’ matter and energy, all on its own, designed, constructed and programmed itself to form the simplest lifeform. • ‘Dumb’ matter and energy, all on its own, produced additional complex genetic coding to produce all the variations of lifeforms we see. The difference between theists and anti-theists is that theists accept that ‘magic’ requires a ‘magician’ whereas anti-theists dogmatically continue holding to their blind trust/faith that magic can happen all on its own. The moment anyone acknowledges that everything about our cosmological and biological existence is nothing short of a miracle, the sooner they can open their hearts and minds to the idea that Yeshua being risen from the dead would clearly not be a very difficult thing at all for Yahweh to do…

Evil is in the heart. It is not hurricanes, earthquakes or childhood disease. Shermer seems blind to that truth. Evil is the proof that free will exists - and we all know intellectually from a pretty young age - we can make decisions on our own and within those decisions we exercise love or hate, good or evil.

In my agnostic science journey I've noticed 3 things #1 Science is not set in stone it's all a theory not 100% what we are certain of, same way people BELEIVE in a religion #2 just like religious text, Science is also always changing and changing its mind, I was always told the bible can't be true cause it keeps changing, science is also always changing...so is science false as well? #3 if the athiests and scientists are right...how come they ALSO have hundreds of diffrent theories for how the earth and life was firmed or how morality works?

Great advice. FYI I lived “a charmed life” until 10 years ago: I worked hard, was successful, with a happy marriage, family, good home, etc etc, but I took everything for granted. I was taken ill suddenly (details don’t matter; other than I wasn’t expected to survive). Obviously I’m here, but am grateful for my life, the people that support me and so many tiny things I see every day. “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.” Marcus Aurelius (Translated from Meditations by Gregory Hay, originally written around 170-180 AD 😀)

excuse me but, NO,,, LOL NOOOOO! The golden rule does NOT exist in every religion. Some of them quite literally teach the opposite of that. There is REAL evil in this world and alot of them, have built some terrifying ideology's/religions. I really like John Lennox but I'm very concerned about and by people that hold this naive and mostly ridiculous opinion considering what we know about many people and certain religions... Not just how they have been used or misused by people, but by their TRUE TEACHINGS when you pick up their books and read them for yourself.

God did everything and is done at cross, death and resurrection of His Son. The Body of Christ must carry on the work just as Jesus carried on the work of His Father. The trouble with general Christianity whom dropped out of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. They don't regularly exercise in the authority that Jesus brought and paid for, even Jesus was anointed and filled with Holy Spirit, without He would not have been able to do the works set before him, although fully God, on earth he was also fully man. Generations of Christianity hold to truth of Word of God, but walk powerless, faithless and only do what is earthly limits, lacking understanding and knowledge because the baptism of the Holy Spirit is foolishness to them.

No functional difference between atheist and agnostic. Both delve in irrationality and mythology. a myth or mythology. "the Arthurian mythos" (in literature) a traditional or recurrent narrative theme or plot structure. a set of beliefs or assumptions about something. "the rhetoric and mythos of science create the comforting image of linear progression toward truth" The 'science worshiping' rejecter limits the appreciation of the many wonders of creation by declaring himself a limited (does not have all the answers) god, and he being a god if there ever was one, declares that any other claimant who knows more than any human can know by exclusively using the inductive scientific model, is an irrationally derived and therefore false invention merely made up from an information void whose claims are to be discredited as magical soothsaying serving the needs of those who are too cognitively impatient or impaired to appreciate and be satisfied with incomplete information with is the bastion of (inductive/godless) science. In effect, the science worshiping rejecter is content with information overload of observed wonders around him despite his limited grasp of understanding their source or of being able to full control or predict them. Any other claimant who, despite a limited human knowledge base, turns to rationally deductive reasoning to bridge the gap between lack of knowledge and the myriad of engulfing wonders, a gap which the science (verses the true God) worshiper desperately wishes to preserve by encroaching into the deductive world of true religion (as opposed to the false/incomplete strictly inductive religion of science) to claim it as false, is therefore irrationally rejected as false only by the unwitting and irrational exclusive use of the inductive model to understand phenomena to discredit conclusions reached by a rational deductive model of inquiry. However, in all fairness, both inductive and deductive models are independent of each other and are both necessary to understand the multiverse. Hence, the inductive science worshiping rejecter (always asking, ad nauseam, for tangible proof ), either deliberate or unwitting refuses to also adopt the deductive model claim and erroneously describes it as 'magic': ' Yet whenever they see a miracle, they turn away, and say, “Continuous magic.” Quran Chapter 54. verse 2

A great Christian but like all others he uses obscuration to peddle his beliefs. He uses classical newtonian descriptions of gravity to push his belief that they are just laws but don't tell you ehat gravity is. And rightly so. Newton just devised the classical laws of why objects fall towards the centre of the earth. If prof. Lennox would use description of gravity as a result of works by Einstein and others since, he might come to different conclusions on what gravity is and not just belittling it as just a law. If he questions the laws of sciences he should definitely question all the laws in the bible, 'heavens' there's even a book devoted to them. He steers clear of thermodynamics. The laws that described how energy is distributed around the universe. These laws put definitions on the limit of everything and I must stress everything, entropy and enthalpy, full stop. The concept of absolute zero, the point at which there is no temperature and everything stops and does not exist puts a scientific limit on all gods. No get out clauses.
