Nice one Fred. I missed this vid. I'm hit & miss with Warp, occasionally gets a bit to cerebral for me . Those Black Dog are fantastic and I love Autecre. Looking forward to your London videoe Did you check out World Of Echo, ive got an East London route planned in about two weeks ive just found that takes in about 7 great looking shops

Thanks for watching Harris, it was a pleasure meeting you! I didn't take a lot of pics or videos on Saturday, but I'll try and put something together in the coming week 🙂 I did go to World of Echo on Sunday. A great shop indeed, but I didn't have enough time to go through everything and at first sight the second hand bins didn't offer much for me. So I ended up not buying anything, but I would surely recommend it to fellow Belgians going crate digging in London. Next time I really want to go to shops Stranger Than Paradise, Love Vinyl, Eldica .... Pure Vinyl and Soul Proprietors in Brixton... will need more than two days! 😀

Lovely video Fred - several things for me to discover here - thank you. Great to meet you yesterday, hope you enjoyed your visit to London. I just ordered the Designers Republic book from the Saatchi Gallery - thanks again for the heads-up. All the best - D

@David-Ellis O yes, I had a great time! Meeting everyone on Saturday was really cool. Even forgot to take pics to do my own video of that day, but I'll work something out 😀 I went to the Reverb exhibition at 180 Studios on Sunday and spent two hours there in fact. So good! Took my time to watch the video installations and had a great chat with the music curator of the listening room.

@@spectrum_archives Hi Fred, yes I think I'll go back to the Reverb Exhibition for a longer look - it was lovely to take Mazzy there, but he's quite a fast mover in galleries so I think I'll return for a longer look. The Designers Republic Book was delivered this week from the Saatchi Gallery - its great, I'm really pleased I got it. Cheers - D

New sub here. This was a great Vinyl Tag entry. As you noted as a silver lining, one of the things I like about the VC is that we are always seeing new and unique Records to check out. Many we've never heard of. I look forward to checking out your other videos. Cheers, Darryl.

Great video. Lots of new music here for me. I recently discovered Irakere (via José Luis Cortés & NG La Banda) and have been enjoying the music. I’ve always enjoyed Paul Simon’s music and still find them for a reasonable price. I’ve been on the lookout for his solo debut album. I don’t dislike Boney M’s version of Rivers of Babylon but I do prefer the original version by the Melodians. Colombian soul, sign me up! Neat shaped single. Fat Freddy’s drop … added to my need to listen list. Neonphusion sounds interesting as well, doesn’t appear to be on Spotify. Any suggestion for where to stream? Thanks for sharing. Subbed up ✌️
@spectrum_archivesАй бұрын
Oh thank you so much!! Mr. Bongo is doing a 'Cuban Classics' reissue series and 'Grupo Irakere' is one of the releases in there. I'm also on the lookout for Paul Simon's debut solo record!! Alice Russell is a fantastic soul singer from the UK and Quantic a brilliant producer. Together with his Combo Bárbaro they made the beautiful lp 'Look Around The Corner' in 2012 (with the singel "I'd Cry"). Good luck finding that because Quantic's records tend to sell for quite a few euro's/dollars. Apperently someone posted Neon Phusion's album on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGS1i3pvq553jLM Enjoy!!

hey Fred. I was really late to the party, but catching up. Fortunately Warp is keeping many titles in print. In addition to the electronic artists you mentioned, I also appreciate Warp reissuing the Boards of Canada, Stereolab and Broadcast catalogs. This video has given me lots to add to the wantlist. I’d love to see a video on Too Pure titles if you’re so inclined. Thanks!

Hey @Russel.S the three bands you mentioned are definitely among the best! Too Pure is a label I know of but I don’t have any of their releases. I do have the albums by Seefeel but only their stuff on Warp - another great band in the label’s catalog by the way.

@calvinwazoo2 ай бұрын
I think I saw a copy of Polygon Window in a store, used copy, but I had no idea what it was, so I passed on it. It wasn't that expensive, either. I have Black Dog Productions "Bytes", picked it up recently because I already had "Spanners" by The Black Dog. I have Plaid as well. Get rid the that plastic sleeve! It will off-gas and ruin the vinyl. These were all recent acquisitions, within the last 6 months. I started listening to electronic in the 70s with Tangerine Dream, but I missed a lot of the acid house that developed in the late 80s and early 90s - though I've been recently adding it. Just a couple weeks ago I picked up that Fuse release. I'll have to seek out Plastic Man (is that what you said?).
@spectrum_archives2 ай бұрын
Yes, I saw that you picked up FUSE and Black Dog in your videos. Now go back to that store and pick up Polygon Window!! :-) And yes, Richie Hawtin is probably best known as Plastikman. The album I have is 'Musik' from 1995.

Great walk through! As a Swede I was also always "a little late to the party" back then. Information about these releases (and similiar) was not always easy accessable. Nowadays I listen way more to the AI 2 compilation then the first one. Do you also have the video that was released at the same time? I love its 90's 3d graphics which complements the music perfectly. DId you say that there is a reissue of AI 2 coming? Can't find any information about it.

What a magical series of albums, they still hold up just as good. Still some of my all-time favorite music. Interestingly, in the US at the time, the albums 'Virtual State' by Richard H Kirk (RIP) and 'Azimuth' by Kenny Larkin were marketed as part of the A.I. series. If you like the A.I. series, I highly recommend checking them out.
@spectrum_archives2 ай бұрын
As a dedicated collector, I have those albums actually. Had I known they were marketed as part of the A.I. series in the US, I would have mentioned them. I think the albums were released through Sire Records in the US, right?
@donello4302 ай бұрын
@@spectrum_archives No, Wax Trax/TVT. I'm just basing this on a flyer included in the CD that advertised the A.I. series, it included them. And I think the hype sticker on the Kenny Larkin album, IIRC. Maybe Warp intended to include them in the series, but then decided to make them their own thing, but Wax Trax kept to the original marketing? Who knows

Black Dog, Autechre and B12 were some of the most important releases that have come around in my lifetime. I really wonder how i would have discovered avant-garde electronic music without them. Before these releases, electronic music meant the techno and house sounds that i heard from Detroit, Chicago and London. Warp helped me get...warped. Lol. It was difficult back then for me - i had very few friends that shared my passion for electronic music. Connecting the dots from suburban detroit forced me to find those "brave new waves" that were happening around the globe. Great video. Thanks for sharing your path to the music. Cheers! Shawn

Great finds Fred! That Trident album is a favourite by Tyner. The harpsichord really makes it sound otherworldly. Tical has aged pretty well, was a daring mix at the time. Not heard that latest Ill Considered album. Their drummer Emre is an old mate. We played in 4 or 5 bands together years ago. Lovely guy and amazing drummer.. can play virtually anything or any style! I remember phoning him a while ago to get him in a new band ( just to play small clubs/pubs) and he said “sorry Ed, am working with Shakira at the moment”! 😂

@spectrum_archives4 ай бұрын
