This is a GREAT video, very insightful. My only feed back is next time try slowing down your speed when speaking. I found it a little difficult to understand you at times because of how quickly you were speaking. Saving this video :)

Great information and presentation. I would ask that you just slow down the speech a little. You speak so fast it's hard to keep up. But great video. Thanks

Hi Vignesh! I've been in procure to pay for 8 years now. My main job responsibilities were converting PRs to POs (no sourcing involved), following up with suppliers for delivery on time, and then handling any invoice exceptions. I was never really part of strategic sourcing, contract management, floating RFQs etc. I want to transition to such kind of a role, because frankly speaking my experience so far is just data-entry, and any growth looks stagnant for now. I would need to sell myself as a sourcing guy during the interviews & build a story around it, because companies always ask for relevant experience in sourcing. Internal transfer seems unlikely in my org currently. How can I prepare for the interviews, what additional videos/courses/books/material would be useful to prepare for interviews, and how can I build a case around my experience to showcase in the sourcing interviews? I love your videos!

Hi, AJ. Thank you for your comment it really helps me continue posting such videos. I will be posting videos on courses / certifications, etc that one can take to further their knowledge in the field of supply chain. Having said this, let’s look at your query. I think we need to approach your situation in a two step process. You need to exhibit the knowledge in sourcing and partner it with your experience. The good thing is that you have procurement experience and this can help you really well. First - I would recommend focusing on certifications - CPSM is an ideal one if you are interested in growing into a Sourcing Professional. It covers a lot of topics that are foundational for sourcing as also allows you to get the CPSM credential which is a good selling point. If you do not want to purse the certification, then I would recommend looking up some courses and content that will expose you to the topics . As you continue with your day to day - incorporate spot negotiation into your function. This is a quick negotiation on the quotes or pricing before the PO is issued. This allows you to garner quick impact from a savings standpoint which will reflect well on your profile. The other function that I would recommend you do on your downtime at work is Spend analysis. This analysis will provide you a good understanding of certain categories which, once again is a strong point for building a sourcing profile. If you combine these two elements you can easily present yourself as a sourcing professional. One thing to note is that you do not need to necessarily look for a sourcing manager role. A sourcing specialist role is a good transitionary role that will easily leverage your procurement and spend analysis experience. Hopefully this helps and sheds some light on the next steps. I am happy to connect further if needed. All the best!

@@thevigpr Hey Vignesh! Thank you so much for the detailed advice! You have me sold on the CPSM certification. I will be doing it now. I was actually confused between CPSM and CSCP, but since I want to make my career in the field of procurement and sourcing, I believe CPSM would be it. I have a few more questions, I have messaged you on LinkedIn. Thank you so much for what you do on KZbin. Your videos are very important for us procurement folks!

How are you documenting this step?
@thevigpr6 ай бұрын
Hi Mzito it’s a combination of excel and PowerPoint. You can document this in a word document as well. The idea is to have a clear cut strategy that is backed by data. Data is best presented in a table format, so if you are able to export this data into a presentable format, then that also works. Hope this answers your question.

This really helps me! Thank you so much. Do you have any recommended courses that I should take to enhance my strategic sourcing skills?
@thevigpr7 ай бұрын
Hi Joiearellano - There are many courses online. I would recommend looking into certifications. An example would be CPSM, these certifications are recognized by the industry as well as give you the knowledge needed to grow. I also have a video coming up on the different certifications in supply chain.
