Great interview and an interesting topic for sure 👍 In my opinion, if you are combining harsh and clean vocals, it has to be done well, and in a particular sub genre of metal / hardcore. For example, I am a big fan of Metalcore. Grew up on As I lay Dying, Bury Tomorrow, Killswitch, Trivium, etc. And I think within Metalcore, it works really well. But, for MOST other sub genres, I just don't think it works. Whether it's Death Metal and all it's pertaining sub genres, Black Metal and it's pertaining sub genres, Hardcore, whatever it is, I am looking for a particular sound, and I dont think adding "cleans" into those genres will benefit their music as a whole. Even very melodic metal, like Saor, or Caladan Brood, or Children of Bodom, sure it's melodic, but the melodies are counterbalanced with the harsh vocals. Adding "cleans" in those instances wouldn't serve those bands and their respective styles. So all that being said, for me personally, 99% of the time, singing combined with harsh vocals rarely works outside of a couple specific sub genres.

I hate and love that this song relates to me so much. This and Lost. It’s hard for me to cry, but when I feel like I can, I come to this song, put it on loop and cry for hours. This will forever remain my favorite Linkin Park song, and I’ll never break that habit.

One of the first songs and then music videos I was introduced to as a kid in 2008. Dream Theater and Systematic Chaos itself will always be a special album of music, not just for the stories told but my dad gave me insight towards the band's narratives at that time and that really had me fall in love with music itself. Saw them live in 2017 for the 25th anniversary of I&Ws and they played "The Dark Eternal Night" as the opener. Could never be happier. 🤘🔥
