I don't own or play a sitar but I am listening to this from start to finish. That's because it's so satisfying to listen to any master who is also an excellent explainer, whatever may be the craft being explained. You are the Bob Ross of sitarists.

I am guessing that the word jawari's Old Persian root is a close cousin of our Sanskrit Jiva.

Could you please explain why you play a Kahn style sitar. Do you have or play both styles Ravi Shankar / Vilayat Kahn? Also could you explain why you choose a wood bridge over a bone or synthetic ? Thank you for your videos they're very helpful to me.
If in every 3 months, the bridge is rubbed for JAWARI / tuning, the height of bridge will slowly reduce. As a result the frets will move towards GULLU. So what is the next corrective measure ?
@SitarGurukul9 ай бұрын
Only professional sitar players do their jowari on the sitar in intervals of 2-3 months, to maintain optimal sound. Students, generally dont. Even if you do it every month, it would take you years to completely flatten the bridge. Even then, what you said is less likely to happen. If it does happen however, just get a new bridge! It isnt supposed to last you a lifetime! cheers!

Nice topic, beautiful narration with confident. I leant a lot. I am a 77 yrs basic student , will happy if you reply my small question. What is perfect length of main strings from arra to main bridge for good sound ?
@SitarGurukul Жыл бұрын
hello and welcome to the channel! I am not sure if I understood your question correctly, but if you want to know what length of string you should cut for the main string, I can tell you what I do. As per my understanding so far, the length of the string will not play a significant role in the overall "tone". The tone is mostly dependent of the build of the sitar and then the jowari as we are discussing in this episode. The length of the string will mostly effect the tuning ability of the sitar. For example, if you take too much (seeing too many rings of strings collected on your tuning peg) you are going to experience that your strings seem to get loose and do not want to retain tune. A good thing to follow in this case is, take the length from the bottom string hooks of the sitar and take just a little more than the length of the desired peg you are aiming for. Ideally, you want around 3-4 rings collecting on the peg for optimum stability and lesser wastage. Hope that answers your questions! Please mail me at [email protected] for any other queries in the future. Happy Riyaz!

You go too fast! Please write down composition on the comments plz plz .
@SitarGurukul Жыл бұрын
Hello, this is the instructor speaking. If this seems too fast for you, I advise you to back to the fundamentals and practice them harder till you are confident. Also, I believe I am already handing out more than any other tutorials are, I expect the students to figure out the composition themselves and memorize the lessons and not write them down.
@EvilSam31 Жыл бұрын
"Rewind this video and write it down, we are going to have a written composition in our website very soon, and I want you to write down " then why say this ??
@SitarGurukul Жыл бұрын
If you could go through the video and quote me, why not have the same effort in writing down the composition yourself from the video? This is the point. We keep receiving mails and videos from around the world, who are doing great, just through these tutorials. I guess, since you are learning from my videos through our effort, maybe you could put in some effort too? This is part of a very big project. The website development has been slow but please do visit the website of sitar gurukul, you'll find a few articles and see that work is in progress. @@EvilSam31
