What's amazing about this final appearence is that Johnny lived another nine years. Apart from a little paunch in his face, he looked virtually as if he had just hosted the show yesterday. Because of his notorious private nature, we never saw him really age, whither away, get sick, or see what his final years with emphysema had to have been like. Our last memory of Johnny was happy, smiling, relaxed, and as content as ever, fitting for a man who insisted that he had no need to push himself and try to recapture what he had already done.

I remember Kicking Bird also telling Lt. Dunbar that this was the place where all the animals were born and even their enemies ( Pawnees, Utes, etc.) agree on that this is a sacred place that should be respected. I take it was also a neutral ground where interethnic/intertribal warfare was prohibited on spiritual grounds.

Refreshing to see where the Native Americans were respected. I had the privilege of working with the Sioux. A gentle family oriented people. Spiritual, & wise. And a sense of humor. They've been misunderstood & feared needlessly. They only gought to protect their homes, & families. Their culture. It was all taken from the Native American. They're still neglected on reservations.

this movie is no where near historically accurate but the story of the genocide of my people is true and to this day my people suffer under the white authoritarian regime that is the us government breaks my heart and they continue to kick us while we are down i watch this movie and cry as our brother cheif joseph said hes tired heart sick he wants to find his children no doubt among the dead our people are starving our homes destroyed i will fight no more forever.. the barbaric nature of the us government was worse than the nazis and yet we are still here the strength of our people lives on taho
