@drifkking I was in disbelief that that was the only way it came out, then I finally tried it and it came out super easy! Unfortunately I haven't been driving the car, about 2 weeks after the rebuild, 3rd started grinding again. A lot of people think it's the short shifter that ruined it

do you know where you can even find the kit. its been a couple of years since youve built it so i wouldnt expect you to have something on hand but finding parts for this thing is nuts rn. one thing i am curious about is you ever did anything to the steering rack like better bushings because i have this weird deadzone when i turn about 5 percent and i feel like its not as smooth to turn like the car is smooth but the turning can be eh at times idk
@BrakenexАй бұрын
Are you in the US? If so, it's not too hard to find aftermarket stuff, or you can even use rockauto to find some mechanical parts, otherwise dealer is probably best bet Double check your powersteering fluid level, sometimes it's something as simple as that... however if it is low, it could indicate that you have a leak (pump, rack, lines) which could also be sucking in air and creating that problem
@LeWeedMonkeАй бұрын
@@Brakenex it is leaking slightly and I’ve had to fill it up twice in about 6 months but I didn’t drive it for 4 months. Can’t really tell where it’s coming from and my mechanic is a bean head and won’t listen to me when I’m saying there’s a problem with it. I’ve asked to change it and he keeps saying I don’t need to. I am in Canada, rock auto seems to be decent for most things I’ll need which is nice except power steering stuff I need to fix it other than seal kits. So I’m gonna buy a shaft seal cause those apparently wear out pretty quick so maybe that’s something that could be causing it but it’s honestly more annoying I have to wait now if I need to install a new steering rack because I’m not getting direct responses from anybody who’s looking at the car. Dealer ships have probably been the worst people I’ve ever had to talk to when it came to parts. Not very helpful at all and half of them just giggled when I mentioned an old Lexus so idfk. I have most of the stuff I need I just need to know what to do with the steering cause I wanna make it pretty buttery to turn and rn it’s not a rock but it’s definitely not that smooth. Like I was saying I’ve heard bushings on the rack helps but most of the forums aren’t helping with this specific issue and expect me to know everything with my first car the month 🤣
@LeWeedMonkeАй бұрын
@@Brakenex I’m not sure if you’d be able to trouble shoot the leak but it really only leaks after I drive it for a bit. I think that may be the reason my mechanic hasn’t noticed anything cause it’s just chilling almost all winter, it barely leaked but as soon as I drove it it leaks a bit by the time I check it in the morning
@BrakenexАй бұрын
@LeWeedMonke damn I'm sorry man, hmm to be sure, I'd probably drive it for about an hour, bring it back home, jack it up, put it on jack stands and check it out yourself The bushings are very easy to see once you're under it to see If they're crumbling away, but it would also give you a better idea as to what is actually leaking with your own eyes If it's dirty or greasy under there already, I'd take brake clean and clean the hell out of everything underneath theb go drive it that way you'll see what's getting wet on the newer surfaces
@LeWeedMonkeАй бұрын
@@Brakenex I could do that and completely dyi it but there’s also a additive that just makes a black light react so I can check for leaks that way or use one of those stop leaks for now cause tbh I could just replace the entire unit but I’m not sure if there’s a point. I just ended up buying the shaft seal to see if the old one is the cause cause they do shrink a lot and who knows last time it was changed. Seems like it’ll be easier to find a brand new rack then the bushings themselves maybe I’ll even get a seal kit and see if it’s the pump but honestly not a huge issue but I just don’t wanna be on the highway and boom my steering is gone but yk how mechanics are not really knowing what’s going on but trying to give advice

Hope you ended up adding control arms. I did the crank lift to mine and every time i hit a decent size bump, the control arms would hit the frame on their downward travel, there by knocking my camber alignment out! Adding Skyjacker control arms remedied this issue, added much needed travel to the suspension! No more having to realign the front end on a monthly basis!

I did! I learned very quickly that I needed to change something. I have the Freedom Offroad upper control arms... overall I'm still not 100% happy with ride quality, I think next big move is BDS 6" kit (I don't want to deal with torsion cranks)

@cardboardkiller68832 ай бұрын
I ended up going with the 2.5" skyjacker lift, after having issues with the cheap 2" crank lift. This kit is AWESOME! This, paired with a 3" body lift will give you a truck that is solid, performs better offroad, handles much better on-road vs a 6in lift, holds front end alignment like stock and wears the front tires evenly like stock suspension! If you plan to do serious offroading often or rocks crawling, get a BDS Lift kit. Worth every bit of the $$$! If you want overall better performance on a daily driver, then go with my above recommendations...
