Excellent review! What might make it even better is to provide the weight of each reel in its class (5/6 weight for example) in order for viewers to make a decision on spending more for lighter weight.

I just picked up this combo for $139 at Sportsman Warehouse. Feeling much better about it now that I've seen this video. I worried it might not be good enough for my sister-in-law to fish for trout this weekend. Now I'm confident she will be fine. Thank you. 🎣😁👍

Unfortunately neither pack comes with a rod holder, however fishpond makes a rod holder that can attach to just about any of their packs. Check it out on our website! www.reelflyrod.com/quikshot-rod-holder-20.html?Category_Code=

Rio has a newer line of salmon steelhead lines available that will definitely work with that imx pro rod. Check them out www.reelflyrod.com/rio-elite-steelhead-salmon-fly-line.html

I started fly fishing last year so I’m starting year 2 and I picked this up from my fly shop. It’s a great entry level rod and reel combo. The only thing I did was change out the fly line to an orvis hydros. The upgraded line probably made a difference but I’m too inexperienced to know the difference. But yeah I love my setup and I’m just waiting for the river to get to a better flow and I can’t wait

Seems to be a problem that people with long feet but not so big bodies end up having to buy waders that are really baggy. I wear a size 12+ shoe (a bit longer than 12) which steers me towards "XL" waders, but I am not an "XL" guy. L is enough, and the stockingfeet part are a bit stingy.

I really like the composite plastic/graphite reels. I have top of the line ross/orvis/sage reels and my little redington crosswater reel is fantastic, light, and has excellent drag. If only it wasnt so ugly id fish with it more often.

Few questions how often should u clean your reel and u said take the line off for storage can I leave the fly line on and just put my fly reel in my fly fishing bag I have and keep it in my house
@REELFLYRODPREMIERFLYSHOP
@REELFLYRODPREMIERFLYSHOP 8 ай бұрын
I've heard of people who meticulously clean their line after every single use. That is absolutely fine, however we suggest cleaning it at least once every 3-4 trips out. This keeps your line healthy and allows you to check for imperfections. Keeping the line on the reel in your fishing bag should not be a problem as long as the bag and all the contents are dry and stored in a dry climate controlled environment. Thanks for the Question!

Rio makes an integrated trout Spey line, which will already include a running line and is 265gr. If you have a running line, I might suggest the Airflo Skagit Scout line if your looking to throw bigger streamers sub-surface.

Nice video, good info, my wife and I are heading up to the Pere Marquette this week, going to be trying out my new 9wt Orvis Recon rod. The gentleman doing the explaining is very knowledgeable and does a great job. However, the gentleman with the hat does not come off very well, My suggestion (and you may know this subject very well, but it does not come off that way) is learn your subject better before doing these type of videos. Thanks for the info I know it will help us this weekend.

The orvis encounters were my first two 3-5and 5-7....then we moved up to Clearwater. I just ordered some TFO rods with Redington Run reels for saltwater....Which im pretty impressed with TFO just playing in the yard. So i may be moving my freshwater rods over to TFO. Good info.

I own the Sage R8 Core 390-4 and I highly recommend the SA Amplitude Infinity Trout Taper. It loads the rod well at short distances ( think small creeks ) and I'm able to make long casts on lakes without feeling like I have to muscle the rod in either scenario. Lastly, lawn casting for fun, I'm able to cast the full length of the line down to the backing with this combination. I have a plethora of fly lines, including Rio Gold and Perception in 3wt, and I don't think either line casts as well as the aforementioned one. There is so much soul in this rod and extra weight (Gold = 1.25 and Perception = 1.5) feels like it steals some of that magic. My 2 cents.

How does the lift rod's action compare to the reddington classic trout's? Looking for an inexpensive 3wt set up and have a 5wt CT. I find I cast slower rods better.

It has been a long while since I went fly fishing (8 years). I glance at the Butter Stick in the local fly fishing shop, new faces and old owners sold to a new couple. My mountain stream/river rods Scott G-Series 4 wt and S3 3 wt. My go to rod is Sage XP 5wt and Winston Tom Morgan 4wt, and Steelhead is Scott Heliply 8wt. It was interesting seeing all these new rods, but Redington's Butter Stick did catch my attention. Being a fiberglass rod I am assuming it somewhere from a slow to medium action rod. Have play with roll casting using the Butter Stick, tried using a double tapered line?

Do you know this stuff is flammable? On Loon's website their own Safety Data Sheet clearly says "Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/ hot surfaces. No smoking." It also says "Do not breathe vapor." Plus it says "Do not allow to enter sewers/surface or groundwater." Rivers and lakes are surface water. This stuff is not "green" it scares me to think that some angler might "Blow off...to speed drying." right into the face of a buddy smoking a cigar. The chemicals its made from are hexamethyldisiloxane, siloxanes and polydimentylsiloxane. Do any of those sound green to produce? Love buying from you folks, but not if you support horrible products.

Funny you mention the Z Axis that model replacedI the SLT which was my favorite and when I got the Z Axis I hated it , but after a while it to became one of my favorite rods . Sage has always made a great product , the one problem is there cost . Thanks for sharing
