I've been finding a lot in 2024. I've been using and making tinctures and dual extracts of reishi and chaga. I got into mushrooms to suppliment my income but have become a big fan of using them. I like the dual extract in cranberry juice. I add some chaga tea or extract to dull the bitterness of the cran juice. I sleep like a baby and my hair is growing back!

I just harvested a couple a few weeks ago up in the mountains. I made mushroom broth and they made me feel quite weird. I think I am allergic. It gave me a headache and made me weak for a day. Only took a few sips since it was my first time trying it. The taste wasn't bad but very earthy/mushroomy. I would add some type of citrus, herbs or seasoning. I wouldnt call it a tea either. Its a mushroom broth in my opinion.

I graduated high school in 1967. Exactly one year later I was drafted into the army, then sent to Vietnam. It was like...high school hijinks one day...the jungles of Vietnam the next. From 'fun and games', to 'kill or be killed', and then you're sent home to fit back into society. It was crazy! No wonder so many young vets committed suicide or got into drugs.

Another reason why I'm a sustaining member of WVPB though I live in Mississippi. A lot of this traveled to places like Baltimore, DC, and Pittsburgh. I discovered this music among friends in Baltimore and in a used record store. There I found a Clark Kessinger album. The old time scene is strong there. I moved to Kentucky and now to Mississippi where I found people to play with. But the music isn't unique to West Virginia. It traveled with folk just as it does today, and it changed. Songs in one tuning or key in West Virginia are in a different one in Mississippi. Names for the same tune are different. It isn't uniquely Confederate just as it isn't uniquely Southern. But it binds people together despite their differences.

I make this in a growler, at least once a month. This is excellent for your kidneys and liver and will become your go to drink instead of soda and sweetened "juices". Texas heat is draining and we use switchel year round here.
