@Rosborough have just built a Gilmour Strat The Black Strat and I also built the Red Strat with EMG DG20 pickups( David Gilmour uses in The Royal Albert Hall…) Remember That Night. Now I have no excuse for not playing/practicing Nice Video it’s worth a like and a subscribe 😁

Clear information thanks. FYI - Vintage / Encore (JHS) have been producing budget guitars via Asia for over 45 years and so they are in a position to work that segment very well. Trevor Wilkinson has been involved on and off for that period (a huge advantage) and the parts support is established as a solid, cost effective upgrade option as you say. For those in doubt, I bought an Encore (later rebadged Vintage) L-5 Byrdland fully hollow guitar on Guernsey a couple of years back, circa 1985 one owner. Gave it to my luthier friend and the only thing we did is replace the pots / caps / wiring due to age and as a precaution added some Titebond internally on the bracing where the joints where drying out. The Wilkinson hum-bucker pickups are super and my son gigged the guitar live the day we got it back... Indie Rock set. Without doubt, Vintage are on the better / more reliable side of the mid / budget market. PICs: Live: pbs.twimg.com/media/FYtdUimWIAMjrUf?format=jpg L-5 pbs.twimg.com/media/FYtc5_IXgAEjWJ4?format=jpg Model designation 302-WH pbs.twimg.com/media/FZhpY-IXoAc64kh?format=jpg It's a thing of beauty.

I love this company. You can mod them, but, it’s the players that make the sound. I’m pretty sure Geddy Lee would sound like himself if this instrument was in his hands.😊

Kinmans are better on single coils than Duncans. Duncans are suited to hot humbuckers I've found. Ready mades aren't a guaranteed good result, pushing signal thru a ceramic cap is questionable, silver micas or polyesters are a better bet.

I have a question. On my strat, I ran my bridge pick up through the tone control. The guitar was wired without the tone control in the circuit. Now it is. What will the bridge pick up sound like with the treble bleed? I'm getting some strange tones when i turn down the tone knob. Thanks

Hi, Dunlop make a handy lemon oil spray. You don't need to oil a neck very often so it should last a long time

I have the strat player plus in jade green….very well put together guitar; I find myself playing it all the time. It really outshines other guitars in my collection, ( I tend to be in that 750.00 to 1000.00 dollar range.) The rolled neck is something you have to experience to appreciate. It makes other guitars feel cheap in comparison.

This is all great information to think about. I tend to agree that guitarists place too much emphasis on pickups. If someone is an old-school guitar purist, playing straight into an amp with nothing in between, then it makes sense to invest more in pickups in terms of sound output - but if someone is playing through a chain of pedals then there is not so much to gain by pickup swaps. Also small things like guitar picks - shape and material - can make a surprisingly big tonal difference. For higher gain/fuzz playing for example, I have found that a pick which is very narrow at the string contact point will produce a better sound.

I’ve recently discovered (after playing a Jazz for years) that I adore the PJ pickup configuration, especially with just a tone and a volume, then a selector for the pickups. I’m less a fan of the volume/volume/master tone config which is a shame cos this batch HB are putting out are really nice looking

Dare I say, tonally its like if a gibson bass and a p bass had a baby. I could see this easily holding its own for punk and rock music and maybe even some motown. A bass this proce has no business sounding so gnarly

Like you said Glenn, there's going to be many more of these in years to come. There are so many different amp brands out there now, boutique and otherwise. Hell I watched a video the other night with three amp brands I had never heard of, each making a beautiful looking and sounding amp & each one better than anything I'd ever heard before. And not to mention individuals getting into the game and making a splash..

Different impedances(8 or 16 ohm) on Cabs isn't going to make anything sound any different. What it will do however is either lesson or increase your output volume. Just FYI
