I was raped by my own father, it almost ruined my life, it certainly affected my marriage. Anyone that supports pedophilia is in the pocket of satan. To say it doesn't cause trauma is to say fire doesn't cause burns.

loved this movie

Saw this film once, probably in the 90's (when I used to watch a lot of cable tv) and I thought it was weird. I was always more of a fan of DePalma's "Dressed to Kill" (1981). Of course that's a seriously weird film as well. I'll have to give this another look sometime.
@retter2critical23 күн бұрын
De Palma was actually looking to direct Cruising ..

Way better picture than Sorcerer, and anything he did after, imho. Much more disturbing, layered and complex.
@retter2critical24 күн бұрын
Its also a mess and kind of better as an idea than the actual execution.. Sorcerer is a much more solid film, though I prefer the European cut.
@Philbert-s2c23 күн бұрын
Yeah, no. "Sorcerer" is a brilliant film. This one is just...strange.
Minute one and he's claiming Foucault, who never wrote a sentence of queer theory in his life, is the sole arbiter of what queer theorists to this day think. How about we dance this dance talking about all of the conservative ideologues and fascist thinkers who were nonces, rather than pretending this is what gay people actually believe?

What was the context of the 250 lb black cop in a jockstrap beating up someone? I didn't think to stop but that is a ponderable moment
@retter2criticalАй бұрын
It probably foreshadowed a future America, just like how the film also predicts AIDS

I was going to ask the same question! I remember all the commotion around this movie when it first came out, I even remember the commercials on TV. I remember going to see it.....and something was just "off" about it, it never made any sense to me. The VO for the entire movie also added to this odd feeling that I had while watching the movie. I tried watching it years later (remember, it came out in 1980) and it still made no sense to me 30 years later! That scene (of course) was one I remembered and my reaction was the same then as it is now, what the Hell is going on!?? It still seems like a provocative scene, just for the sake, of a provocative scene. I still don't get it. Glad to see someone else asks the same question I've been asking for 40+ years!

@retter2criticalАй бұрын
@@zachsengstock Cheers man! There was shorter radio edit of the song available to make the clip for, but it would have removed that section of the music where it rocks out .. So went with the version that was longer, which of course needed more shooting and editing... If you are interested, here is some more info on making the clip .. www.pureshitauscinema.com/features/night_rites_den_music_video_mike_retter.html
