Rockestra to me was a disappointment to me. I was expecting a bigger sound the engineers didn’t capture the moment where you had such big talent it didn’t sound like a Rockestra.

Where has this been hiding all this time? What a gem! What a lineup! I had Back to the Egg when it first came out (tragically another cassette long gone). I'd seen the Concert for Kampuchea (Dec 79) special on TV on or about 81 during which most of the gang here perform this song (as well as Lucile and Let It Be). I obtained the album of same (tragically another long gone cassette). Yet, I never knew about this. When watching the above concert, Rockestra is introduced by Billy Connolly who reads the impressive list of names. As a huge fan of the Who, Zeppelin, Wings, Small Faces etc... I was always impressed with this. When Bonham plays at the benefit concert, that was possibly one of his last performances? Having passed nearly 9 months after this concert it's possible he played some gigs in the interim. Wiki doesn't say.

I guess this shows how much respect all these other great musicians had for McCartney to show up and participate. Unfortunately its not his most memorable 'tune'. I wonder what the list of famous names made of it all.

It seems to me that the rockestra theme has a boogie-woogie origin. I think Alan Parsons should have recorded and produced it to get more out of the sound of the different musicians.
