didn't this used to be big way back when? 80s I think? maybe 70s I saw one video of a guy riding on skis (snow skis I think, not sure)

Thanks Jeff. So you know something of kneeboarding? I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about regarding ski’s but thanks for sharing. How did you come about watching this video? Kneeboarding is still present as you can see! Hope you enjoyed it but if not that’s ok. Each to their own.

@@farrer68 - no, it's definitely cool. I wouldn't want to do it, but that's because my knees hurt... Some people ride skis out in the big ones - crazy.

Ripping, great power in those turns with good spray. I kneeride finless for over 40 years. Still working on pulling the knee rollo. I’ve only seen one person ever pull it landing back on knees not belly.

Great vids, Simon! I’ve just started knee boarding as Parkinson’s has slowed my pop up. Are there any technical videos out there? Do you wear fins or just boots? Cheers Mike
@farrer6810 күн бұрын
Hey Mike 🙏 As far as technical vids not any worth mentioning in my opinion. Knees apart and posture not too upright is my 2 cents & most peoples mistakes when starting is too far forward on their board. There is a sweet spot to find 😉. Good luck & enjoy 🙏

Simon how is the slightly narrower Bruce Hart board compared to your standard 5'10" x 23" wide double wing pintails? I ride three of Bruce Hart boards and they are all 23" wide.

@@anthonylatham51 combined with lower rails it allows me a little more hold in my turns when the waves are giving plenty of energy back.

@@farrer68 I was taken out of the surf a few years back and am trying to supplement the missing exercise with an e-trike. But my focus as a lifetime artist/surfer has just been to document Arena Cove in all its glory! The characters and their stories are included in the Cove images and are included in a booklet of who and why they were there? Which smears its landscape with the politics & cultural changes. In the winter of ‘83, while I was visiting my wife in upstate New York, delivering my third son cesarean the Arena Cove was hit with a huge swell! Which led into the monstrous replacement of the 1865 wood pier into a steel concrete thing. And the wrecking of Arena Cove began by greedy local minds. The owner was in his 90’s and so he let go to his wife who hated the place and the end of a cultural icon and his working class fishing environment, ( the heart of the City of Point Arena ) was put on greeds life support! So my prints and sculptures, paintings and stories are the surviving documents. But being barreled on the Outside Lefts sliding in and out from behind a 8foot curtain racing at speeds has not been forgotten and it’s still there on the perfect giant New Zealand south swells! There’s not a single island or land mass between Point Arena Cove’s southern point, and NZ, as in rides all the way through the inside and into the beach and wharf. Though now it’s possible to ride all the way through the inside and the new piers elevated steel piles! Which says nothing about the winter north swells that pound the finger reefs of the north side of the Cove! I’ve only seen it ridden at 25’ to 30’ on one occasion. Its character makes it the ideal “rights” and the wave is what I would describe as all terrain! Dropping in on a walled up peak, riding up into and under a section then into a big humping wall which leads into another inside barrel & wall along the second finger! Love this wave. Not many surfers have happened by on great days but when they did they never left the place…! I’ve surfer it since ‘69 and it was a 2019 car collision while I was parked that took me out of the lineup. At my age now I’d rather surf warmer waters, but the recovery is a long road back. Haven’t given up but water temps at Arena Cove required a 5/4 wetsuit and that’s feeling pretty stiff these days! The Cove occasionally closes out all the way across the bay…haven’t seen that in a while? But then when that’s happening “Saunders Reef” (Mavericks Big Brother is going off just a few miles south of the Cove. That’s about a mile off shore. But beautifully visible to those who challenge it. Locals have it covered but Doc Hazzard of Mav’s fame swears by it and rides it every chance he gets most often alone. Anyway all this means is should you be on the north coast here during a big swell from the South or the North don’t pass up the chance to grab some waves. Jeff Martinez is the raining shaper/kneeboarder in PA so I’ll extend you an open invitation. Of course there are a lot of waves between here and Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz was where I cut my teeth bodysurfing after Ocean Beach in SF. Steamers Lane was my ritual. But Point Arena is where I took up every vehicle and settled into the kneeboard. The place is a miracle with no local assholes for traditional travelers…to deal with. I keep threatening to visit Australia and of course New Zealand but I haven’t yet…but I still might! Satchitananda Dustin
