You're never going to get the vocals on a phone. You need to back up away from the stage and use a zoom lens with a tripod. The best way to do this for under $1000 and get HD2 video (but the sound in Mono) is to use a Nikon D3300 (not a 3400. The 3400 does not have a microphone jack) and to get an external microphone to mount on the hot shoe, and than put it on a tripod. The 18-55 mm kit lens should work fine. The only problem you have to work around is the time limit of 10 minutes. You will cook the sensor running it over 10 minutes continuously.
