Love your kitchen diner and the space it occupies. It was actually a really good idea to keep the pillar as adds another dynamic to kitchen without blocking light. The kitchen units are absolutely gorgeous and gives it the wow factor. Not scrimping on the units will make the house super saleable as you have maximised storage. However, I would brick up half wall to divide front room from kitchen diner and then door to side opening to kitchen as then you have a better layout and room separation.
