I did not---not through the gurus at Thumpertalk that I so heavily depended on (well them and my Clymer guide) during the rebuild process. HOWEVER, given the bike absolutely screams throughout the range, it sure would seem I ended up doing it correctly after all. :)

That will definitely effect some performance with the a couple of the dings I can see. Either try to pop them out, or just get a new pipe. Just my two cents.

But sir, last I checked you were more of a car guru and not so much a motorcycle engine guy. Your opinion is in stark contrast to two replies I’ve already received in a moto forum for two strokes that I follow and get lots of solid advice on. But of course everybody’s entitled to their opinion. Thanks for chiming in. FMF Gnarly pipe - few smallish dents - no big deal? thumpertalk.com/applications/tapatalk/index.php?/topic/1285704-FMF-Gnarly-pipe---few-smallish-dents---no-big-deal%3F

@@jfordbos I asked my boss and showed him your clip. He had been riding 2 strokes for years so I trusted his opinion and thought I'd share what I found lol. But if it's no big deal, awesome! :)

@@patrickbirmingham2560 Show him the link I showed you. The 2 replies are from guys who've been also riding 'smokers' "for years" as well. Everybody's got an opinion on the internet. But for my own novice-level skills, I'm not convinced those smallish dents are going to affect output on the occasional weekends where I'll be puttering around on trails. So put that in your (tail) pipe and smoke it! :-p

No sir! I was in the Novice group but mainly because it was my first track day in quite some time (last one was in California last year and I just moved to St. Louis this Spring). I rode in the Intermediate groups toward the end of my Cali days and I'll probably start riding in those here too after I gain a bit of an understanding of the local tracks.

I guess my main question is, or did Triumph issue any tech bulletins on this? I'm thinking about contacting them now to resolve any known issues surrounding this...
@blkcoupequattro10 жыл бұрын
You are not alone, I expected no issues with my wife's 2013 675R I was wrong. A few weeks ago with about 5000miles on her now small leaks from both the pan area, and the clutch cover. I tightened the clutch cover up (easy access), that one stopped they seemed pretty loose by my standards, but since the body work is a real FN hassle to remove we brought it back to the dealer to fix the leak that is dripping right on the exhaust. Hopefully no one is hurt or injured by a larger leak as one on the back tire might prove fatal... I'm hoping no further issues crop up internally, and that those internal parts are torqued properly perhaps the person working the line that day had the wrench torque setting set improperly ..??? Update(s) on any other issues or findings, Triumph owes me and the wife ticket to the races with cold beers, we burned half the day dealing with this...

Go to the triumph forums (triumph675.net) maintenance>how to>countershaft sprocket seal. It's impossible to be 100% sure what is causing your particular bike to leak, but given everyone else's leaky 675R - mine included - it's highly likely that this is your issue. My clutch covers and oil pan covers were slightly loose as well, but snugging up every single bolt did not solve my problem. It's not loose bolts - it's the countershaft sprocket seal. Triumph built the bikes with a countershaft sprocket seal that is 2mm too narrow (35x62x5 seal). Jury is still out on whether a double lipped or single lipped seal is more suitable - but those that have replaced their seal with the double lipped 35x62x7 seal have eliminated the oil leak, including one bike with hard track use.

Counter shaft seal, ok, makes some sense, but I'm also noticing a noisy rattle at idle with the clutch out in nutural, could this be the counter shaft I hear that is making the noise??? I'm thinking there might be deeper issues here because the gear box seams sloppy also on deceleration and back on acceleration. I'll check the forums out, but something tells me some of these might be lemons? Found the info thank you I'm going to drop the info on the dealership now before they waste anymore of my wife's time, and mine! Curious if a simple metal oil slinger would help block oil from getting past the seal without the high tech approach used in the forum. www.triumph675.net/forum/showthread.php?t=157281

Not in great mechanical detail, no. But the sealant just wasn't there so they opened it up, applied the sealant, torqued all to spec, and it's been completely dry since.
@jfordbos10 жыл бұрын
Jcolmar, I didn't. The shop/dealer did, per my comments.
@jfordbos10 жыл бұрын
This was ultimately fixed. It was due to a lack of sealant between the two case halves, directly in front of the countershaft sprocket seal. Earlier attempts to repair failed because the shop kept thinking that it was leaking from the countershaft seal itself. Anyway, the lack of sealant was an omission that the factory just plain missed on my bike, according to the dealer. Triumph was subsequently informed.

I have the same problem. Where exactly was your leak? Can to show in a photo?
@jackcolmar369110 жыл бұрын
i have the same leak on my '13 675R. I found that most of my oil pan bolts were a bit loose. So I snugged them up to the spec torque which if i remember correctly is 12nm... but that corner bolt that is visible through the fender kept spinning and spinning. The torque wrench showed 10nm continuously until eventually the bolt snapped in half!!! It took very little pressure to do that. I got lucky and the broken half came out easily and I have replaced the screw with a stainless steel equivalent from a hardware store, but please beware of this if you tighten these bolts. After snugging up the steel bolt to the appropriate spec, I still leak a tiny bit of oil - about 1 drop per day. I guess I'll just have to live with it. It's a British motorcycle so it's to be expected haha
