When I’m unwinding myself, the movements are spontaneous, it frequently feels like someone is lifting my arm, and holding it in a stillpoint isn’t tiring despite gravity. It’s really very pleasurable; I am unwinding 58 years of holding in anger from abuse and trying to not be seen or take up space, so, there’s tremendous tension! I started with a myofascial release therapist and now I’m unwinding myself at least an hour a day. I’ve had some pretty powerful releases.

Fun fact! Fascia was discovered and talked about in a book in the 1930s called plastic anatomy. This is also work by Mabel Todd Ellsworth the thinking body that was also popular in the early 1900s. Ideology is also in this group of fossil unwinding. Just say that John Barnes was also part of these people that brought fascia work to the United States is somewhat true. Pioneers like Ida Rolf and Joseph Pilates also did their fair share and be recognized.❤

So if the body 'just goes where it needs to', then why doesn't it just do that independently of a practitioner? If all the practitioner is doing is 'holding' the body part until the fascia engages, can't the body do that on its own? And if one can't 'feel' the fascia or 'feel' the craniosacral rhythm even though you try your hardest to lighten up your touch, how do you make any difference with the patient? I've taken an intro to CST many moons ago and have heard that you 'fake it until you make it' or that it will one day magically 'click' and you'll 'get it'. That seems a bit disingenuous to me and I'd really like to include CST into my pediatric physical therapy practice.

A bit late to this party, so apologies. How as a therapist, would one provide this profound type of manual intervention with someone who is non-verbal or neuro-atypical (i.e., cerebral palsy or with autism) who cannot verbally describe their response? Yes, I understand you'd need to follow breathing, facial gestures, body tensing, etc., as you would for verbal clients, but given that this input can sometimes not show up for several hours or days, how do you know if the patient is having a latent response and you won't be there to help them through it? Thanks.

I will admit that I have only watched parts of this video, but...seeing all the comments and NOT SEEING one mention of Ida Rolf in those comments or any reference to her in your video leaves me in shock! If anyone was a "fascial expert" it was her!

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach includes MF unwinding. There are 2 courses for unwinding. This is one of the corners of his triad approach: Structural MFR, MF rebounding, and MF unwinding. Appears to be quite similar to Shiatsu which achieves the same holistic response through passive stretching and acupressure. I would venture to suggest that maybe the meridians run through the fascia - some are now coming to this conclusion.

Just like to add the following comment, at 74 years old I am still cycling 50 miles weekly, rowing machine, ping pong, ballroom dance, and lately squash was added to the exercise regiment., however its the latest activity of squash where I injured the leg muscle, adductors to be exact, quite painful indeed where I stopped playing for 4 months. Ive exhausted every physical therapy recommendation to cure the injury but to no veil. Hence I will try to take up your method of unwinding the fascia.

I am sure I have a fascia knot or “ energy cyst “ that is basically affecting my whole body from a bad leg injury and surgeries... really brutal hopefully I can learn something from this.

I had never heard of this, and came across this and another video. I have had a stiffening in my left thigh where I could not turn my leg out (a bit like in ballet) and after sitting and getting up had trouble walking properly. I thought if I'm like this at 78 what will it be like when I'm 88. After watching your video (having always loved dancing) I lay on my bed and let my leg have the freedom to go and do what ever it wanted. It was just a fun let's have a go experiment. To my amazement the next day my leg had nearly completely freed up. Still a tiny way to go, except I could rise from sitting and walk not feeling like an old lady. I was astounded really. I thought I'd share this, and promise that I am not kidding you or exaggerating. To be fair, I do a lot of walking up and down steps. We live on a steep property. But thank you. I was meant to find you. And it's wonderful. And it has not worn off.💗🙏

I have a question, yet to find an explanation yet. I had trauma surgery to my stomach. Big scar. If one of the major fascia lines that go up the middle where cut into, does the body’s healing process fill in the blanks where there was disruption?

Thank you for that detailed explanation. My assumption based on feeling and self education, is the superficial fascia lines are connected to deeper fascia so it doesn’t really matter. I feel that any missing section is easily bridged by the deeper layers. The body does have amazing ability to heal.

moreover, there is absolutely zero empirical evidence of consciousness having an effect on ECM or 4th stage of water. Anything you said is beyond highly speculative and doesn't make sense

Craniosacral therapy put my spirit back into my body for the first time as I lived (and was born) in a dissociated state. For the first time in my life, I knew I was one with love, I was love, I could give and receive love. It was profound! Without telling my therapist about this dissociated state (because it wasn't normal), my therapist quite rightly said, after a long pause, "You are existing about two feet above your head." Once she helped me feel safe enough to embody, my healing took off. I can't recommend enough! Best wishes. ❤️

Exactly!!!! All of it. I know energy seems a strange thing to rational mindsets, but since I use it constantly as Chi to reset my fascia as normal....I listened and it's correct. Don't doubt....electrical bio energy has been ignored by the best minds because you don't really feel a solid object, but he explains the atom and it's really not as depicted in it's energy swapping roles so fast we cannot imaging. I also do my own cranial and discovered I could address so many bodily issues so easily. I don't even have to put hands on my scalp to feel the changes taking place. My fascia is knowing itself as the system I use to stay wellness always now. Understanding what it is, was the best experience I got from helping myself. Now it's so easy doing remote viewing and feeling the problem from a distance isn't something we do naturally. I have learned this and then I go do ordinary things and forget I even can help myself when something alarms the fascia, it's already fixing it in it's timeless duty and we are unaware we need to stop and stay still while breathing and letting the connective tissue gather the energy to swap dirty for cleaner then we feel refreshed so easily. I learned on my own and never a teacher for Tai ji, which trained me itself as I was hurting and it began to take over as it was already in control. I just became more aware of what was happening. Then it fixed a bad toe while I sat and watched my body put the toe against a rubber ball, I thought I was doing accidental movement...then it hit like a ton of elephants. Dummy, you're fixing yourself as fascia knowledge is complete on any creatures physiology and it knows it should correct us, but we're so monkey brained and not on "Channel 3" as the PT John F. Barnes, licensed since the 60's, but was helpless on his back after surgery failed to fix his issue. He'd messed up his back lifting weights and they did back surgery. Go to his channel and get the full account of what happened next. He knew he had nobody to rely on, so he laid on the floor, he states, and felt something he didn't know was there....fascia. Touch changed it, he kept going and learned myofascial self release was a real thing nobody but the late, Dr. Ida Rolf, knew from her research. This presentation was accurate beyond most I've watched after the fact. Experiencing trauma I have resolved by knowing what to do.....epic. Super powers are for imaginary characters....this is ancient as the world we inhabit. True. Ida Rolf went further than anyone in teaching about the tengresity principle as others have also discussed in online videos watched. Wellness to all and good energy to one and all from this planet and it's universe. Feeling better is touching yourself lightly and being patient....takes only a minute tops to move fascia back home yourself. Then it's fascinating as it took over when we were first born, we didn't know it was there then either. But we played like children and didn't worry about falling down, got up and resumed with gusto. What happened? We all know...we were told we were going to get stiff as expectation and some did....I escaped by being diligent and endured reverse pain going out the door life pushed me through, saying goodbye to pain as a worry is freedom if you know the fascia wants what we want but needs our assistance getting loose again, you didn't move enough something and it gets dried out, stuck and then can't deliver your next attempt to do the hully gully dancing you thought you could do. Athletes stay in condition to make millions...cause and effect. Barkley clearly doesn't understand staying fit but his other contemporaries keep fit for after their playing days. Go figure....he knows too, but gives in to his appetite and desire to be less active as before. Now he can't. He wants to, I can see it, but he just accepts his condition as normal too. Is it so?

I've been doing fascial unwinding on myself for years now. Ive had no training, am not an expert but have had many CS sessions over the years. It's just about getting yourself into a nice calm space, uninterrupted, and the body naturally begins the unwinding process, often with just a gentle stretch. You can also raise your bottom off the surface a few times, I find this also helps with unwinding. It's fascinating and anyone can try this. Its the most beautiful calming of experiences. Good Luck.

I totally agree and everyone’s body/fascia is in a unique state, which seems to beg for individualized approach. Moreover, this unwinding process often triggers involuntary movement (kriyas), which seem to “know” what the body needs during any given session. This is only my experience of course 🙏

Great discourse. Except this emphasis on the belief the soul lives in fascia is unnecessary. When the method is clinically effective it speaks for itself. And so does not require a belief system to be delivered along with it. Whether it’s true or not is irrelevant, people need to given space to have their own experience without any of that. Thank you

I am open to the whole body integration concept but I cannot understand how you can actually know how the baby was born or injured in the past. Can you please elaborate?

The mother would have explained the birth and from that and the state of his fascia and rhythm you can figure out what is happening to the person/child. When connecting to the person depending on how deep they let you in you can feel all the different layers from the liquid layers to the central nervous system to the deepest which is the energy source. You can feel the cranium and on this level the child may have been compressed or pulled/janked out, this can impact not only the cranium but the spinal cord. on a different level the child may have been terrified independently or feeling the mothers fears, this would cause an imbalance in the childs chemicals as well as central nervous system causing it to loop in to flight, fright, fear response which would create a constant excretion of adrenaline and cortisol causing the vagus nerve to basically freak out. With time and experience this all can be felt and dealt with. :)
