A gorgeous piece of music performed beautifully by everyone! A blessing to have the Sarasota Orchestra musicians accompany the choir!
@mrfixit0273Ай бұрын
Oh my god this is awful. Does the organist need to get to the toilet or something? So hurried, no phrasing, no time for breaths, the conductor (not that he’s making much effort) couldn’t even keep up with the organist - got caught out at the start then I gave up watching. Such a shame to ruin beautifully written music. Come on folks surely you can do better?

So beautiful. I've only recently begun to realize how much preparation, effort and practice goes into doing what you do. I do hope that you (at least occasionally) get some sincere expressions of appreciation for making a visually lovely environment a delight to the ears as well. Play on!

I found that tuba loud, shrill and unpleasant.
@DRjimfairfax3 ай бұрын
The recording is partly to blame, but the stop was not a tuba! It was the en Chamade reed, which is too loud, but the hooded trumpet was too small, so had to make a compromise. Sorry!

This is one of my favorite choral works. Your choir performed it with beautiful phrasing and dynamics. What was the instrument accompanying the piano? An oboe? I've never heard it arranged that way. It was wonderful!!
@DRjimfairfax7 ай бұрын
So kind! It was an english horn, a part that I cobbled from the melodies of the accompaniment and a bit from the tenor line. It works equally well with french horn, but I love the haunting sound of the English Horn.

wdym by "J. S. Bach (not Bach)", who composed this then?
@DRjimfairfax10 ай бұрын
from imslp.org Nearly all scholars are in agreement these works are not those of J.S. Bach. Arguments have been advanced in favor of Bach's pupil Johann Ludwig Krebs, his father Johann Tobias Krebs, Bach's eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Franz Anton Maichelbeck, Johann Caspar Simon and (most recently) the Bohemian composer Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer.

1 God himself is with us: let us now adore him, and with awe appear before him. God is in his temple-- all within keep silence, prostrate lie with deepest rev'rence. Him alone God we own, him, our God and Savior; praise his name forever. 2 God himself is with us: hear the harps resounding! See the crowds the throne surrounding! "Holy, holy, holy"-- hear the hymn ascending, angels, saints, their voices blending! Bow thine ear to us here: hear, O Christ, the praises that thy church now raises. 3 O thou fount of blessing, purify my spirit; trusting only in thy merit, like the holy angels who behold thy glory, may I ceaselessly adore thee, and in all, great and small, seek to do most nearly what thou lovest dearly.

A great pleasure to hear the Purvis Jubilate again, as it was one of my great joys to sing it in the junior choir at St. Paul's, Chattanooga. I wish it had been taken a trifle slower, but that's my only quibble. (Frankly, I couldn't hit those high notes consistently myself at age 11, so no criticism there.)
