I remember talking to Dave Clarke on the Le Bateau forums early 2000s , and when i posted ' what's your fav band ' or perfect album or whatever, he replied Split Enz, i nominated Appetite for Destruction.

Ahhhhhh im home, Love this childhood memory and I have to make special mention that Nigel really made those bass lines his own, so fricken creatice from Enz to Fenster...... Jeepers he was something. Been listening to the Enz in rotation in my car. And I have to say Poor Boy and The Choral Sea are amazing. I took up bass because of him.

A wee, barely seen american-born boy was thrust to the limits of southern NZed, at the age of 4 and a half years old. Only to hear that The Enz, among many, do their fair shit, was too much. Shame on the ENZ and the Coconut Rough for setting me on a path to mine own destruction... PM Robert Muldoon. "Hee, hee...hee." 'Eeee... "

This song is still ridiculously good 45 years later, and the subject matter - about a really creepy sort of relationship the guy is in with this woman.

The early, early days of MTV was the greatest jukebox ever. I was 6 when this was in rotation & my love for this track has never faded... 🤘♥️

I remember waking up one night around '82 where I left MTV on and this was playing right where Noel and Tim are bunny-hopping. It was the strangest coolest thing I'd ever seen and I became a fan, even though the only other video I could ever see for years was "I got You", until Crowded House went into rotation, years later. I bought every Split Enz album I could find and It wasn't until early 2000's, I saw their other videos online and their documentaries.

How did I not know that the singer, and his brother are/were in Crowded House?? 🤦🏽‍♂️ I've always heard thethe song's as two separate singer's. But now I can't unhear Neil's voice on either 🎉

Neil wrote some great all-time tunes. Try and sing this song, by belting out the chorus like Neil. Hit the notes in the same key, just like him. Good luck. Deceivingly and extraordinarily difficult. The first verse transition into the first chorus is seamless, instantly, with no drum rolls, no cymbal crash, no high-hat pump, no signal from vocals or guitars, no warning of any kind, then from chorus back into the verse, same seamless transition out of nowhere, flowing in and out on a dime. Simplicity par excellence. When you have a great song, no filler or frills necessary. Such a marvel and pleasure. Only great songs can stand like this.

Though there is a small roll from the second verse into the second chorus, and one hi-hat pump from first chorus into the second verse.
