It was either this or a Innovatice marine 40 gallon, the IM is much cheaper BUT it lacks most equipment needed to even RUN a saltwater tank, and when adding up all my equipment for it totaled out at around 2 grand, not including the fish coral sand rock and other stuff I’d need like food, test kits, water stabilizers etc. this tank was my choice

Hi Craig! Thank you so much for all the videos and updates regarding your Reefer 170 E :) I would kindly like to ask you something, I am trying to decide between the Reefer E 170 like yours (all in one) or the normal Reefer with a Sump system. What do you think would be best? Do you sometimes regret getting the plug and play instead of the normal one? Some people tell me I should get the normal one with the Sump so I can always upgrade things easily or if something breaks I can replace with other brands etc…. What do you think? I would highly appreciate your feedback here :) thank you and regards from Switzerland :)

Hi there :) Did you get any feedback about the power centre having 2pin plugs and then not being able to plug in the equipment with Uk plugs? Is it just a case of having to source equipment from the USA? Cheers
@craigbillington90554 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, I received nothing no - I think it’s ridiculous for a company to push a product to a market that that don’t truly support. I’ve just installed a surge protected socket in the sump and used that really

Hi Craig, my Goniapora have always prefer a position in the tank where there is low flow. Mine like to be closer to the bottom of the tank. Changes in parameters are often the cause of many coral deaths which is why i like to test at least twice per week and more if the corals look troubled. I periodically add bacteria cultures after performing water changes and will spot feed the gonis with reef roids each week. Here are some of my Stokesi! kzbin.info/www/bejne/imrKnntni51-hMU

Hi Ravent. Thanks - I have been using the RealReef rock and I would estimate that I have about 14kg in there. I think the general rule of thumb is 1kg for every 10l of water

Nice to have someone talk about actual pricing, I purchased my Max e 170 for £350 courtesy of gumtree it came with a heater and the light I think the second-hand market is great it means you can purchase the higher-spec equipment within your budget this s a temporary tank for my porcupine fish and lionfish I took the dive and purchased the sump kit brand new as I couldn't get a used one near me and due to lockdown I couldn't travel I purchased this as the tank needed more volume and space for my bio-media and I must say highly recommended.
@craigbillington90554 жыл бұрын
Mias Consultants Ltd thanks for the comment! I think you’ve got an absolute bargain there! Completely agree second hand is a great way to do it as it means that like you say, you can get the higher spec equipment. Good luck with the tank!

If you are looking at adding a sump later then wouldn't it have been better to go for a different tank like the Red Sea Max XL 200 or the Reefer 170? I really don't get why Red Sea Max wouldn't configure the outlets to UK type? This is such a bad decision and defeats the purpose of having a clean electrical system. Are you still liking this tank or do you now think you might have gone with another version of Red Sea Max? Thanks!
@craigbillington90554 жыл бұрын
Google Reviewer possibly yes but I was more interested initially in the plug and play features, plus the convenience of not shopping round for lighting. I’m happy overall with the e170 and would recommend it. The situation with the UK plugs is ridiculous. Surely the UK must be one of the largest markets?
@chrisgooding33584 жыл бұрын
Buddy, so you haven't used the power centre with travel adapters without the cover in case of a leak, and instead added a extension lead which is open?... same thing right 🤷 I'm getting this tank in the next few weeks and will just use travel adapters. But you are right for the price of the tank shouldn't have to really
@craigbillington90554 жыл бұрын
Chris Gooding Hi Chris, nothing to do with leaks at all. The reason I’ve not used the power centre is I just didn’t want to use travel adapters so I could plug the items in there. Just my preference really. Thanks for watching and good luck with the tank 👍🏼

You should take photos of the corals in the same position, angle, lighting, etc. once every week or so. That way you can really see the changes and growth. It’s hard for us to notice tiny chances over time. When you look back, you’ll be able to more clearly see the difference!

Wait till its totally cycled before touching no3pox if you search about it online most will tell you to hold off till it's fully cycled. Keep at it bud.👌
@karlmarkham74 жыл бұрын
Hi mate heard you dosing no3pox during the cycle, ? That eliminates your algae so that would explain why you haven't got a build up ready for your clean up crew. I personally wouldnt dose that until cycles completely finished and you have some build up of algae.it will be consuming your bacteria needed.
@craigbillington90554 жыл бұрын
Karl Markham cheers Karl - thing is, the NoPox is part of the reef mature kit and it tells you to dose from day one so it’s difficult to know what to do. Surely given the issues with the nitrite the thing to do would be keep dosing until those levels drop and then have a week or so without dosing to enable the algae growth? Appreciate your advice 👍🏼

I'm about to purchase this tank and I've read on forums that the media rack/basket sucks. Someone pointed out that intank offers a upgrade for the media basket. do you think its worth the upgrade or just stick with the stock one?
@craigbillington90554 жыл бұрын
Nolan Piacentini I actually rate the basket. It’s really handy and seems hold the media in well. I like the fact I don’t have to submerge my whole hand to get the media lowest down out of the tank

@@craigbillington9055 hows it going? Are you running a reactor? Bio pellets or anything to help eliminate this. Its typical new tank syndrome, but your doing right by lights off increase flow and just do water changes slowly not to sudden,
