Hey Dave sorry I have been quiet, crazy amount going on at the moment here, you know how life is, as soon as things are going amazing it has to throw a few curve balls at you to keep you on your toes lol.. Great video and very interesting stuff about the driving tests and those people that do that, its a shame things are in such a mess. Maybe the reason these people still get away with doing this with the tests is the DVLA or whom ever have not got the capability of tracking or stopping them, or somehow these people take a burden away from the dvla or something and that is why they are not so fast in seemingly wanting to sort it all out properly, who knows. The situation here is very bad with test waiting times as well but it is because there are just to many people needing tests and having lessons but not enough examiners. The waiting time has been crazy since covid back logs but I think covid is used as an excuse now, because that has been over for ages, yet the waiting times are still crazy. Oh I went for a really long drive yesterday with just my son with me in the car and I have to say a big thanks for all of the bits on your videos that I took and just practising them and being in a calmer frame of mind etc, the drive was not only great but really enjoyable which before, I just do not think it would have been. So thanks so much for helping with making that possible for me. I am still working on pictures and bits, I am just away from home so often at the moment and work is all over the place, ive no idea when I am coming and going and have so much going on but I will sort them as promised. Oh I saw a funny thing earlier when at work and driving as well, a certain kind of German speed camera, it is literally a trailer with a box on it and they cleverly hide these trailers between work vehicles or other vehicles and I am telling you unless you exactly what one looks like, you would mistake this speed trap for a trailer on someones car, its crazy how they look and how hidden they can be really. Anyway it is great to see the sub number rising and the views too, you really deserve it and people really should subscribe because by doing so and by commenting with requests or with general thoughts etc, I can see future videos and information being so helpful to so many people, the videos so far certainly have for me and I am sure there is a lot more I can take from your videos now and in the future as well.

@@dcdriving2463 Oh believe me, your subs and then people comments will all come, I have fishing channels I watch that started out just like you have with theirs and their concerns about it being slow at the start and lack of people commenting were all similar as well, they now run into the high 100s and even low 1000s in subs and the comments flow, it was just the start and beginning times that seemed endless that but as it did with them, it will happen and all come great for you I am certain of it. Anyway I love supporting you and your channel simply because of how much you just want to help people, you take your own time out to do this and even when it seems slow, you continue to put the effort in and continue to ask people watching to comment and well, just want to help and so supporting and being supportive is a small thing to give in return for just how much you have helped with my driving so far and how much more I am sure you will help with it as time goes on. Oh do not worry as soon as my daughter starts, I will make sure she is watching often and that she asks any questions she has directly on your videos, of course I have two other daughters and although they have no indicated yet that they are ready, I am sure some day they will take lessons as well and I will do the same thing. Yep well the test situation here but not only tests, lessons as well are in a mess with waiting times, the same actually goes for theory tests here, from some people I speak with the waiting times for them seem to be very long as well and the same thing is said, covid back logs caused it all but the simple fact is , there are 100 people wanting a test to every 1 space and examiner I think, there just are not enough examiners, yet like most things they seem to want to fix and deal with things that do not need fixing, and leave the real issues on the side line. Have a great evening as well, its very mixed weather here, big big thunder storms with spells of sun, but still always very hot and muggy

Hey Dave great video, thanks to this and your other videos I have a much better understanding now of being in a lower gear going down steep hills as I was always to high and therefore braking to much. I´m totally with you on the dog walkers who have their dog nearest the road, or off the lead altogether. Another thing is parents who let their kids either walk on the road side or they are to far away from them to have any control. I just don´t understand it. Perhaps they just do not realise points of view of drivers on the roads and would maybe be different if they did, who knows. Anyway I too am not a football fan really by the way, although here there are many and especially at the moment with German flags all over their houses and cars lol. I am very in to my fresh water fishing though and luckily there are forests and lakes everywhere for me here to explore and go at. I´m still taking little bits and pieces from your videos and noticed that another thing that´s improved with my driving thanks to you is the amount of time I spend looking around or in my mirror, rather than ahead being far less than before, which is a very good thing. I am not sure its common for new drivers but upon noticing and thinking, I found myself spending far to long on shoulder checking or just doing to much of it than necessary. Now I am much calmer thanks to the videos and tips and am looking forwards for things far earlier, making my need to check everywhere easier and just generally calmer or less at places, than before. 5:25 is a prime example and still is sometimes of moments I would be anxious and although wrong I would speed up. When somebody is right behind me trying to push like that guy was to you, I would feel in the wrong for some reason or wonder if am I going to slow etc, but actually now I just make sure I am on the limit, make sure everything ahead is safe and I just spend less time looking in my mirror at them or thinking to much about them, Although I do still have times somebody is behind me like it that I feel pressured or anxious, it is far less than previously and getting better all of the time. Subject of white lines, I do not actually know the difference between a single solid white line and double solid one, I just realised this when watching. I know that if you have a solid your side for example and the other is a dashed line then they can cross it or over take but you cant as which ever side the solid is is forbidden from crossing it, I think is right? or of course you could just have one solid white line meaning both sides are forbidden from crossing over it or is a single solid only forbidding over taking? As for the different between single white line and a double? Maybe it is even more wrong to cross than a single in all eventualities that perhaps a single can be crossed? I would be interested to know if others know really, because I realised I am unsure. One last thing, 8:14 was an interesting junction, I have not noticed one like this before in which you turned left but there was actually a slip road part to use on the left also rather than turning directly on to the road itself only, It could well a silly question but do you have to always use that upon turning, is it there for in case you pulled out and realised someone was coming from the right, so gives you space to be out of their way or as I think it might be, is it just there for larger trucks as they turn? Great video, I look forward to when more people begin to comment with questions and generally begin to interact as well and that time will come soon I am sure. Have a great day, I will work on the pictures and bits asap. Just got home from work a little late, now have to run my little boy to play school, then hopefully enjoy a little of the sun again as the weather is still red hot over here.

Hi Paul glad you enjoyed it. It was just a spur of the moment thing .yeah with the dog walkers it's exactly the same with pedestrians and it's something I will touch on when the situation occurs. With the left turn you can use the slip to merge but wait if you need to. I'm just on a quick break now and enjoying the sun but luckily my car has a sun roof aswell as aircon so nice to have the choice. I'm really happy that you are still getting something out of the videos even if it's a little thing if it helps it's great as previously mentioned I'm focusing just on learner's it's to hopefully help everyone. Hey Dave really enjoyed the video, you were pretty much spot on with the right before left rule information and the roundabout signalling was totally correct also. The only thing with the right before left rule here is that it can become real complicated and hard to explain because some side roads may have a sign/shield just before them which will tell you that single side road only you have priority and the right before left does not apply for it but any coming up after it with no sign just before them, then the rule is back lol. some right side streets may have another shield sign such as a big X which will mean that this single side road just after that X sign is the right before left rule but all others joining your road after it are not! Well, If the head ache is not enough yet then It gets even more complicated because we have priority roads here where there is no right before left rule at all, these are shown by a tiny yellow priority sign or a sign with a fat black street over a thin one, highlighting which direction and route the priority street flows. It is all very hard to explain to be honest, especially in writing form rather than say having a chat about it. As I can only type rather than answer flowing little questions and things like chatting allows lol. If however you are at all interested and please do not feel rude to say no to this as I will understand, but if you were interested enough and ever wanted then I would happily send you pictures of where I live to show you examples of roads and their side streets to the right hand side which have total priority over you, when I am out and about driving, if only to show you how strange it is because in the UK you would never stop for these side roads at all or ever expect anybody coming out of them without looking like they do here lol. Id happily picture anything else you might be interested in that is here such as the roundabouts or play streets which are 4mph only roads, anything, so feel free to say if you are lol. Another thing here is the motorway here, being the autobahn of course is that one thing I have noticed now is that it is used for everything, what I mean is by this is that it is used even small 10 minute journeys sometimes and basically connects towns, even very nearby ones, rather than in the UK where usually the motorway is used primarily for much longer journeys, here just visiting my mother in law 15 minutes away I nip over the autobahn rather than take the city or town roads. It really does keep the city and town roads far less busy this way by connecting towns etc with the the autobahn like this... Obviously also the autobahn has no speed limit what so ever on around 70% of it but there are many stretches also with limits. However those without then the law and recommended speed for a car to enter it and drive at is 80mph (130kmh) and if like allowed you do decide to drive 150mph or however fast you wish t, then you are at fault for anything that happens and are totally responsible because you are travelling faster than the German recommended speed of 80 mph. One last thing that really makes me nervous here as I am still trying to get used to is exiting and entering the autobahn because although not all of them as many are stand alone, there are still many exits and entrances here on the motorway that are used together as one in just one single exiting and entering lane by everybody! People leaving the motorway and people coming on to it all join and use the same lane and part to do it! It is strange to me still and I do not know if these exit and entrances used together exist anywhere on UK motorways do they? Maybe I am wrong. Anyway I am so happy you uploaded a video and don´t worry I am pretty sure a student or two will agree to a video sooner or later and you will get fresh content and ideas as time goes on, it will all happen sooner or later and start flowing nicely, I am sure of it. Oh and when a student does agree to do this or you have an interesting drive you´ve recorded then it would be nice if you did perhaps one of the videos like one of your earlier ones where by you asked viewers to see what hazzards there may be and other things as the drive played out, what was there to notice that was worth noting but you never said what they were, instead left it for people to say, I know at the moment the comment sections are quiet but in time when it picks up, as it will, those videos would be great and I would happily try to point out any hazzards or things worth noting that I saw, perhaps and probably I will miss some as well. Anyway enjoy the sunshine, it has arrived here also, not sure how long it will last but blimey it is hot at the moment here!

Hey Paul thanks again. Lots of interesting information there so I'm going to read it again later but yes I think it would be great if you could post some photos in your comments. Thank you for your comment. This video is a few years old which I did before I decided to do KZbin which you can probably tell by the camera. But remember what I keep saying we're always looking for the space. Irrespective of what colour the lights are or who has priority it's doing what's best to keep the traffic flowing.

Great video, especially the first little part with the traffic lights, most new drivers, well myself for sure would have just crept behind that silver car to early as in my mind I would have been thinking if I never then people behind me would wonder why I am waiting at the line when our lights are green but also I would think there was enough room, yet really there wasn´t. Actually though watching it on video like this makes things far clearer and makes total sense to wait behind the line like this. If the lights happened to have changed to red and I were still out in the middle waiting on the silver car to make their turn, then suddenly I am in the cross traffic blocking those cars because their lights would then be green. I would have then been in the situation probably of panicking because of that etc as a result. So just waiting behind the line until the silver car had either gone completely or there was a large enough area ahead to justify moving out into the middle, prevents all of that from happening. Seeing little things like that and the explanations on them are so helpful as are so many other things on your videos.

Fantastic video as always, very valuable tips and information especially on entering the motorway and on merging, but also things such as holding back so the lorry can see you clearly were great. Really teaching me to look for things that perhaps I would not usually be looking for when merging or over taking etc. I also liked how you pointed out things such as the petrol station to the left as you drove, it would not occur to me so much to take much notice of it as I tend to concentrate on the traffic already on the motor way itself whether in front behind or where ever but I must learn to just take note of little things such as petrol station entrance and exits etc as these are things people will be coming from, so forward thinking such as remaining in the middle lane until after these things in anticipation or to give more view for yourself or to let people merge easier from those places is far better. I guess what I am getting most now currently from videos, are things that make everything far less complicated for myself when driving and it covers a wide range of different driving areas and things to watch for really, that are not always obvious to new drivers I guess. It is hard to tell which camera angle was better, the other showed more road I think but this one is great for this video as it shows so much of the right and the motorway lanes.

Nice video. I also like the point you made about the difference between having a 'L' plate on and not. Since taking my learner plate off my car I notice that I blend in with other drivers as normal. Whereas, before I would be cut up at roundabouts and people would overtake me wherever possible just because they see the badge on my car. Just thought It was a good point that you made!

It is a great point isn´t it. The mindset of people (The majority at least) is "I must be in front of the learner" and so its no shock that the number of people letting you out whilst you have L plates on is far lower than how many would if you never had them on. Here where I live in Germany I have never seen L plates yet on any learning cars and there is no green P sticker for just passed plates either as far as I am aware. The school cars at least that I have seen including the two I learnt to drive in simply have very small writing on a sticker with the schools name on the back of the cars and actually the one I learnt in unless you were to stare at the little sticker on the back then it would be easy to never notice it is a learning car, then again perhaps these little things with the school name on the back of a car, German drivers know to look for and notice faster than I would. Anyway yea thinking about it, it was a great point about the L plates and peoples attitudes toward a car with them or without them being so different.

@Pobsta-de7hb I do think people's attitudes are changing and have less time for anyone in general so it definitely affects the way people drive. I don't often take my sign off my car so it really made me think about more on that drive.
@Pobsta-de7hb
@Pobsta-de7hb 3 ай бұрын
@@dcdriving2463 I am not sure it is better to not have the learner sign and plates like it is here or whether it is better to have the sign on top and to highlight it is a learner driver. I personally when learning would have rather have had the big sign on top of the car to let drivers even further back in ques or further ahead see I am a learner, I am not it would help their attitude toward me but for some reason I would have felt better knowing people can see I am learning, perhaps in my head it would excuse my mistakes more in front of them, I am not sure. It is a hard thing to decide which is best I think, do peoples attitude changes over take how pupils feel about having the learner sign on the car when they drive. It would be interesting to know how pupils feel, do they prefer having the car lit up that it is a learner, or would they prefer not to have it. Anyway awesome video as always, still re watching many of them and picking little bits up even now! I have a list of differences here in Germany compared to the uk for you but I never sent anything over because I did not want to confuse people to much, especially the learners watching these videos. Hope you are having a great day so far and have a great day.

@Pobsta-de7hb

Hey Dave, well a little about me as promised. I lived in the Uk all my life up until I met my wife who is actually German lol and she was on holiday in the UK, I met her in Broadstairs where I lived which is right down on the southeast coast and so tourists were always in massive numbers during the summers what with all of the beaches around where I lived and other things and after helping her find some good things her and her family could look at whilst there, we just hit it off right away really and so spent a few years chatting online after she went home and managed to see each other a few times during it all. Anyway long story short, we had a great laugh and spent all of our free time together after I met her and well a few years of that passed and here I am, now in Germany, married to her with our little boy and loving life lol. I could go on with more details but I do not want to take all of the space talking about that stuff, it is after all a driving video page, not "Pobstas life story channel" lol but if there is anything youd like to know maybe about that stuff or Germany in general, feel free to ask but ill give some information about my driving and driving in Germany below. I left learning to drive so late and am actually in my early 40s now, I passed several months ago after learning here in Germany and passing the test here. I think the reason I left it so late is because neither of my parents drove and where I lived I had everything on my door step, shops, work places, all my friends and never really had any reason to drive, although for a few years I did ride around on a 125cc scooter but as for driving a car and taking lessons to get my license in the UK, I simply just never had the push from anyone nor a real need to do it. It was only when my daughters grew up a little and spoke about wanting to learn to drive and mostly moving to Germany like I have that I realised I really should be driving now and so did it. I also after time passed realised how much driving would have opened up a lot more things for me in the past but you only know these things once time has passed right, but I encourage anyone to learn to drive as early as possible because now I think back, I was a little silly to have not done so. I am interested to know the stats with your driving students over the years, have you taught many that are over 30 or as I imagine almost all are under 25 no? Anyway as you can imagine, even though I was not a driver in the UK, I still knew the roads, the laws and just general ways UK driving works over the years of being a passenger and just seeing it all and living in the Uk for 40 years. So when I moved here, instantly even before taking lessons or driving myself here I noticed the huge differences in how things are in regard to driving and the rules of the road in Germany that is for sure. It is different here and so in a way it might be a good thing that now I live here that I learnt from scratch how to drive and took my lessons here rather than had a UK license and just hit the roads in Germany without lessons etc I guess. I do not want to flood the messages with the rule differences here etc as perhaps it will confuse people learning to drive in the UK but just a few examples of differences here in Germany when driving would be things like.. When approaching roundabouts you will actually be fined if you indicate your direction as you approach it and before you are in the roundabout itself, you must only indicate just prior to the exit that you wish to take and not a moment before.. So there is no indicating as you approach roundabouts here lol.. It is an odd rule because you do not actually know where anyone is going until the last moment when they reach their exit! I suppose on the flip side of the coin though it actually makes you wait and find out where people are going before making your decisions or pulling into the roundabout, so it is hard to tell whether it is better or not so much so than how things are done in the UK but if I had to choose, id always go with the UK way of doing things lol. Another massive difference is on 30 limit roads for example and some higher limit roads but mostly 30´s and this is that every single road to your right hand side has priority over you and they will just pull out in front of you and you have to stop and give way to them. The rule is called right before left and is common on most roads here all bar larger ones which have little yellow priority signs meaning you have priority over right hand side roads on those or side roads which have a dropped curb, these roads do not have priority even if they are to your right... Anyway so if you are on a straight road with side roads to your left and on the right, all those on the side roads to the right can and will just pull out in front of you, those on the side roads to the left give you priority as you are on their right hand side, basically everyone gives way to those to their right. There are even different roundabouts with the right before left rule that apply to them, although most roundabouts here do not have the right before left rule. It is as complicated as it sounds actually and I am still getting used to it all myself lol. Another big difference here is cyclists have priority over everything, when reaching the end of roads you must go very slow as they cyclists and pedestrians have priority over everything here in regard to the roads and drivers on them. Almost all pavements have cycle lanes, I have lived here now for 5 years and seen maybe 2 cyclists on the roads out of the 1000s and 1000s on the pavements that I see riding and so on approach to the end of side roads, toward roundabouts etc you must drive at crawling pace because cyclists come from both your left and right where the pavement for the road you turn on to is and they do not look care nor stop for you lol. At traffic lights another difference in driving I noticed is that when you have a green light, so do people walking or riding and crossing the road to your right and to your left, so at green lights when you are driving and turning left or right, you must check no one is crossing or riding or approaching to cross before turning at the lights to take your road. Anyway the list of differences go on, but if you want to know more, feel free to ask, I think I have already taken up way to much space writing this lot lol I do not want to over whelm people or you, so perhaps it is better if I say, if there are any specific thoughts or questions you have about Germany or driving here, feel free to ask and ill focus my reply on those areas, otherwise I can go on forever lol As for driving in general, it is the same anywhere you are and so I take so much from your videos and they are teaching me to be more calm, collective and make my decisions much earlier and leave myself less to think about or struggle with in the car than I was doing before your videos, and a bunch of other little tips and things are helping me out massively for sure. As for drivers here, I find them more aggressive but in a weird way only in their driving and not their vocal actions etc, because road rage or shouting things etc here is a big offense, even sticking your finger up to another driver when driving here can land you a big fine. But as for drivers, the same impatient types you have in the UK really, sit right behind you as they just need to get to where they are going, 30 seconds earlier, many speed here especially in the 30mph roads which is weird because there are so many "pop up" speed cameras in Germany that appear and disapear from roads all over the place or even police sitting in normal family saloon type cars with cameras catching people, you would think it would slow everyone down but it doesn´t seem to. In general though I would say the drivers and attitudes to their driving etc is pretty much the same as those in the UK, things sure have changed now from how they were years ago, you are so right. People are impatient now and always in a rush, much less willing to give understanding or give their priority away when driving but I suppose that is just how things are with people today, where every you are in the world. I will leave it as that because I just looked at how much I wrote, I do apologise as I can sit typing away like it is nothing and never realise just how much I have wrote until nearly finished lol. All future messages will be to the point and about specific things but I thought id give a little insight into me and driving here like requested and I said I would. Hope you have a great day, am off to work now , 3am start for me sadly lol.

It's really nice to hear your journey to Germany and how driving is different there I'm going to have another read of this later and I'm going to talk about some of the differences in possibly my next video. I'll point them out as I'm driving around. I've been teaching now for 37 years and still get a lot of pleasure out of it .I hope this shows up in the videos. My main clientele is normally within the 17 to early 20s age range but I do get some like yourself who left it later in life .Cheryl who you commented on is similar age to you .As for the length of your replies personally I enjoy them as you describe what you are getting out of it so please don't change them. I'm off out to work now for a couple of hours. I'm hoping to get another video out early part of this week. Have a great weekend and thanks again for your continued support it really is appreciated.

teach me slip roads! I nearly killed my instructor today!! haha. I can't for the life of me get these right. My issues seems to be 1/ that I can't quite tell exactly where they are/what lane they're in as I am on the sliproad. I can't always detect how far they are behind me and their speed compared to mine, e,g can I go?!! It's complete lucky dip for me and I'm not sure how to fix it. ps - earlier what happened was I was entering a motorway from a slip road. As far as I could tell (although in hindsight I was wrong?) I can room to move in too. But then my instructor said 'he's not letting you in. Slow down!!! Stop!!'' and grabbed the wheel so that I was driving over the little cats-eye things on the left of the slip road. Scary stuff!! But teh driver behind me didn't slow down or move lane or anything for me. She did say in fairness that that wasn't typical, but I don't care. I'd lke to be able to deal with them on occasions where it's NOT easy as the road is empty or everyone on the road is being helpful etc IN other words, I could easily do this if I was controlling the car via remote control from birdseye view!! Just not when i'm in the car lol

Thanks for your comment. I will at some point incorporate slip roads as and when the time arises. With the videos that I do I tend to concentrate on incidental situations as they arise .I would suggest in the meantime talk to your instructor about your fears and concerns. The key thing is to use as much of the slip road as possible to the point of where it tapers down and use the space to build your speed up to match that of vehicle's on the road that your merging into .other drivers are more likely to let you in if you are matching there speed .if you look at Amy's motorway lessons you will see some advice on this .
