@shev095kkАй бұрын
Но водяной насос не мог так сломаться за одну секунду. Этот процесс долгий, и вы должны были слышать посторонний шум в двигателе.
@betterthancommongarage2030Ай бұрын
one would think that to be true but i assure you i heard nothing of the sort.

I have a 2013 Edge with the 3.5. If I had known about this waterpump fatal flaw I would have never bought it. 145,000 miles and no problem yet but I lose sleep over this, I check the oil and the coolant before I crank it up every time. If you have this much coolant going into your oil you have already scored the main bearings in this motor. Find a used motor or rebuild the one you have if you can, you are not going to save this one without a major rebuild. Also, don’t go to a regular shop, go to a shop that is in business to rebuild motors. Modern motors are not forgiving. The old cast iron push rod motors will run even though the rebuilder makes mistakes. This 3.5 aluminum block will not. Good luck
@shev095kkАй бұрын
Тебе лучше не ждать проблем и заранее заменить водяной насос. И менять через каждые 55000 миль

Why do i always see an Edge on used cars lots price to much lower than everything else. I see a ton of these. Are they BAD cars or just unpopular. I can deal with unpopular. But I don’t want a problematic vehicle. I heard about the water pump issue for the v6s but should i buy one?
@markmeadorАй бұрын
If you buy an Edge you are taking a gamble. I own a 2013 model and I love the way it drives, very comfortable and fun to drive but if the water pump fails it will cost $1500 to $2000 to repair and that is if you catch it before it ruins the motor. Stay away from any Ford or Lincoln with the 3.5 or 3.7 V6. The list is long, Ford Edge, Flex Explorer from 2011 and just about any Lincoln MKX. If you don’t care what it looks like get a Crown Victoria or Lincoln Town Car. They go forever and still get 23 to 25 mpg on the highway.

please tell me you tried turning the crankshaft with a breaker bar before you decided it was toast. i am dealing with this exact motor and problem in my 2010 mazda 6s, when i was at that step i found i needed a huge breaker bar to turn the engine, i think the belt-driven accessories on the crank pulley adds a good deal of resistance, removing them may make/have made the difference in even getting the engine to rotate
@betterthancommongarage20309 ай бұрын
I did in fact try a breaker bar to no avail. The water pump sent trash throughout the whole engine and ruined almost all the bearings. It was completely junk.

You didn't have to worry about 3/8 . Your car was not going to slide off the lift. Your balancing cables. will keep it from getting any further. You could have just shim the pads on the arms up 3/8 if you were that concerned.

There is no such thing as a "free lathe" and if you pay nothing you can be sure it's worth every penny. As for "engine lathes" I've worked internally on engines from 4500-hp GE Evolution locomotive "prime movers" to nitro RC car engines and damned if I can think of any engine parts "universally" machined on a manual lathe one at a time in the "modern era" and in "mass production". I've read it's "engine lathe" because a REAL machinist can "make" every "moving part" in a functional internal combustion engine "on" an "engine lathe". I find that hilarious because unless it's a 2-stroke I don't see anybody getting it done. Kinda hard to "turn" timing gears or sprockets and chains on a lathe not to mention grind camshafts and turn raw forgings into connecting rods. "Modern" pistons are also "cam-ground" and machined out-of-round intentionally to be round when "hot" and subjected to thrust loads. 😊

if you haven't painted the truck by now I would raptor line the outside top FYI here the roof will rust from the inside out so pull the head liner and use rust convertor in a spray bottle in the roof corners and down the sides. good luck good content.
@chez6459 Жыл бұрын
The cracked engine heads issue was an early 2.9 Liter issue that was later fixed with redesigned heads from the ford factory. I will say, these trucks are not meant for taking offramp or onramp exits and entrances with sharp curves! Your son will need to be advised to take curves at speed limit or lower to reduce the risk of rollover. running 235/75/R15 michelin tires will improve handling a little bit and improve stability a bit more but the big draw back is this truck has a narrow track width and Ford could've built it a bit wider to make it handle better. Those door handle bezels on the interior can be sourced via Rangers of the same range, they're easy to find.

I'd like to replace the water pump and timing chain in my 2008 Taurus X, but not having access to a lift, I'm hesitant to try it with the engine in the car. I've seen that it can be done on a Taurus, but it looks like there's not enough space in Edge to pull it off. You may already know this, but once the new engine is installed and ready to go, you should clear the PCM and adaptations before trying to start for the first time. Otherwise it either won't start, or it may turn on the wrench lamp and go into "limp mode". Forscan software can do the clear procedure, or your mechanic friend may have access to a diagnostic tool that can do it. Good luck!

@@johnallen1901 good to know. My brother in-law has a fancy scan tool hopefully it can do that for me. As for replacing the water pump in the car, I'm not sure. It sure is tight. I have replaced a water pump in a explorer with the 3.5 but I think they have a bit more room. Thanks again!
