Thanks for the upload. A lot of nostalgia and old memories came flooding down. I bas born and grew up in Ranchi. I used to travel frequently on this route till the late nineties almost 30 yrs ago. As a child in the early eighties I remember travelling back from vacations to Ranchi from Calcutta by the Hwh Hatia Exp. It was drawn by a WG steam Loco from Muri till Hatia. I remember the slower huffing and panting WG hauling the train up the ghats and the thick black smoke and soot that it belched that made my face soot covered. It is probably my earliest memory of train travel and also of steam engines. A cup of tea my father used to have at Muri at 6 in the morning when the loco was being changed. It came on electric WAM1 till Tata then by WDM2 diesel till Muri and then by WG steam till Hatia. I have been a big rail fan. Nothing has changed of the fairytale scenery. I also remember going down from Ranchi by steam and its shrill whistle that rent through the hills and forest of the night till it reached the sleepy little station of Muri which had electric lights at 3 places. The station building, the guard room and a small cafeteria on the middle island platform which served roti and aloo or anda curry only late in the night and of course chai. There were only semaphore signals then. Amazing memories. And I miss those days and Ranchi.
