I'm just in awe of Danny's talent and I don't mean only his vocals and his multi instrumental virtuousity. I mean his God-given gift of song-writing. Writing song is the most precious of all gifts. The melodic contour is addictive as is his use of jig on violin at end. There may be those who equal Danny, but none surpass him. Review by Patty Nash. University of California, 1981

Listening again and amazed that Danny not only plays as a master on his mando & fiddle, but he sings clearly with lilting colorful accent, But he COMPOSED this work with a marvelous and memorable melody. What a terrific melody!!! You should be famous!!!❤❤❤

I had forgotten what a good dancer Joe E Brown was. But his finest hour was at the end of ‘ Some Like it Hot’ !

Danny has a voice unlike any other He pulsates with music in his veins, his brain filled with patterns, rifts and originality. He breathes oxygen, exhaling music. He is the entire symphony.

This is brilliant and such a tear jerker! The little girl is such a good actress; she runs rings around an earlier child actress Margaret O'Brien who I just couldn't stomach! Kathryn and Howard and Ava superb in this version!

I HAVE THE ROOM ABOVE HER is not in the 1951 MGM version unfortunately but Keel did record it in a group of selections which appears above here with Gogi Grant. I have a recording of this song taken from an old 33 RPM & is one of my favorite Keel numbers & here it is on You Tube in the other group of SHOWBOAT selections listed with Ms. Grant.

I love this clip for Joe E Brown’s eccentric dancing and the way he checks the synchronisation with the ‘granddaughter’ as she mirrors his moves....and then doesn’t do the backward flip....very sweet

Showboat is also one of my favourite musicals. The storyline, the music, the singing by Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel is superb and of course little KIM is just adorable as Gaylord Ravenol's daughter - so sorry to hear that they have all passed on - but what a great legacy they have left behind for us to enjoy....

I love this scene too. It is very touching and reminds me of the feelings of abandonment I felt when my parents divorced. My dad left for years and I never saw him. But the part that touches me is when Magnolia walks up. That's too funny that spkregar's mom was grossed out by Howard Keel's bad breath! They didn't have Tic Tacs back then.

I just finished watching Show Boat and wanted to know more about the little girl who played KIM. She is so cute, she looks very much like Joe E Brown and I wondered if she was related, like maybe his real grandaughter, but I can't find information on either of them. I always look up stars on TCM.com. It would be great if you could give them the information about your mother so that us curious fans can learn about her. Next time I'll have to pay more attention to Kim during that last song.

My mother indeed played "Kim" in Show Boat. She passed away in July of 1997 and not a day goes by that I still miss her. She did have several very entertaining stories about the filming. The one that comes to mind was that Howard Keels breath was so bad she did everything in her power not to pull way during the final song. In fact when you watch it you can see the subtle expression on her face change as he gets closer!

I just saw the "Make Believe" reprise at the end with your mother and Keel. I've always found that scene very moving but now when I watch I just have to laugh.

Your mom was a wonderful little dancer. I love this film so much. I am sorry to hear that she passed away quite young. I really feel she should have been credited in the film.this is a wonderful scene. The MGM Studio Orchestra were fantastic too.

@spkregar Was Sheila your mom? I just watched Show Boat again this evening and started looking for a mention of the actress who played Kim. Show Boat is one of my favorite musicals, along with My Fair Lady. If you lost your mom a few months ago, she must have passed away at an early age. I lost mine 10 years ago and still miss her. You have my sympathy as you work through your loss. I've also played in the pit for this show, and the music is great! Your mom must have had great stories for you.
