I was surprised to find hummingbirds can make similar sounds too. Near the end of this clip with tests of the tail feathers in a wind tunnel, it quite reminded me of the club-winged pitch. Hummingbirds sing with their tail feathers kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4HEh52eitiXd9k

Hi, interesting study and nice video. However, the locality is wrong. Club-winged manakin inhabits the western Andean slopes, while the Tiputini Biodiversity Station is on the Amazonian lowlands. According to Dr. Bostwick's paper: "Display behaviors, mechanical sounds, and evolutionary relationships of the Club-winged Manakin (Machaeropterus delicious)" published in the journal The Auk in 2000, she studied this bird at the Maquipucuna Reserve, western Ecuador.

Something else is going on; harmonics are being generated above the fundamental. You see them as horizontal stripes in the graph; the lowest one being the knocking, and the sum of all the stripes creates the total sound you hear.

The Club-winged Manakin you are showing on the Tiputini station is not true, because Club-winged Manakin is a Choco endemic bird, this means on the Pacific side and the Tiputini is located on the amazon side of the Andes. Nobody has ever seen a Choco endemic bird on the Amazon side. The scientific study about the bird might be good but now I´m not sure of what you say.
