Thanks Ben i used to really enjoy my trips up to Carlisle it used to be very busy on a good day you could see 20+ freights plus whatever else turned up.

Crazy to see how different freight trains are then compared to now. Sellafield has been shutting down as far as I know, smaller locomotives like that Standard 4 aren't allowed on the National Network anymore, most of the 86s on containers have been exported to Bulgaria... it's all changed 😢

Hello, this is really random however I recall seeing a video of a NoL Eurostar getting dragged up from North Pole to Polmadie. I think the video was taken somewhere between Lancaster and Oxenholme. I don't suppose it was you that took the video? I've been scouring youtube trying to find it and I'm thinking it was possibly on this channel? If it was you could you please let me know which video it is? If it's not yourself then sorry to bother you!
@michaellewis335Ай бұрын
Sorry but i cant help you i have not got any footage of a Eurostar being dragged the only thing remotely like that is Freightliner Grey 47270 dragging Pendolino 390011 to Polmadie at Hest Bank 10 August 2002. Good luck i hope you track it down.

Didn’t know the DVTs came down the Cross Country routes. And why would the 47s be dragging them, surely having push-pull operation made more sense?
@michaellewis3352 ай бұрын
In 2005 as Pendolinos took over scotland to Euston expresses the virgin mark 3 coaches became surplus. Freightliner 47s were used to bring the coaches south for either storage or scrap.

Redudant stock being moved south to Wembley no longer required when pendolinos took over.

A Freightliner 47/0 on Virgin stock, with two DVTs on the rear? Stock movement of now redundant stock?

Are the railroad tracks in the UK mostly continuous welded rail? I am personally a big fan of non welded rails and very I'm curious about the situation of railroad tracks in the UK!
@michaellewis3355 ай бұрын
Hi most of the main line tracks in the UK comprise of continuous welded rail but but there are still some secondary routes and rural lines that still have the old jointed track which produces a totaly different sound when running on them

Sorry about that i thought i had included the date in the write up it was 2006 - 2012 most people didnt use widescreen then and there was very little HD footage about
@sandgrownun665 ай бұрын
You could get a cheap camcorder capable of 720p HD widescreen several years before 2012. I have a short video of some cherry blossom, recorded in 2011 on my channel. The camera was a supposed Hitachi brand with an optical zoom. It was bought from a well-known auction site, and cost well less than £100. Probably nearer £50.

You are entitled to your point of view this footage was recorded many years ago on various cameras with different formats which are not all compatable i would suggest if the quality in your opinnon is not good enough stop watching the videos and let the people who are more inteterested in the content not just the quality.

Cracking collection Michael. Great to see the line getting some proper use, back in the day. In terms of freight all that remains is the weekly Hartlepool flask train. Also a daily departmental in each direction between Carlisle New Yard and Tyne Yard.
@michaellewis3358 ай бұрын
Thanks ! in the early 2000s the line was very busy with freight traffic including coal , limestone, steel and the traffic from Workington Docks to Teeside also about teatime there used to be a Shieldmuir to London mail via Hexham sadly as you say hardly gets any use at all now.
