isn't it cool that something you recorded 3 years ago, is still relevant? I'm a pro VO, and I just listened to this because I was looking for IVR examples, and a KZbin search brought this lesson 14 up as an examples. and while it's not, it's a great lesson, and you are so patient and giving as a teacher. Great JOB!

Excellent, practical advice, Jason… especially for one who hasn’t been doing VO work very long (only audiobooks so far) and is at the point of needing a demo for other types of work, but not being able to afford to have it “professionally” produced… yet.

Radio is traditionally 44.1 at 16 bit. 👍🏼 That's where that standard comes from. I personally record in 48k and 32 bit float.

Hey Dave! For our location production work, we're recording everything in 32 bit float. However, I've yet to use it for my VO sessions straight into Pro Tools. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

@@robert_starling hey Rob ✌🏼 Pleasure! Can't speak to pro tools as I just prefer Audition BUT principally it's the same application, so I would just say that what it provides me is the maximum latitude for my files when I'm mixing and mastering. Everything I produce gets a pass with proprietary chains and "the sound" my clients are coming to me for. While I CAN and have done great work at 44.1/16, the granularity and insane power of modern plugins and AI tools like those from Native Instruments for example or iZotope, really LOVE a file with as much data as they can get. You'll find that you get sometimes MUCH better results out of any post-applied effect with a file recorded at device-maximum quality. As such, even if the particular device I'm recording through only records at 44.1 I want the DAWs settings OUT of the way so I'm guaranteed to get the maximum quality signal out of the mic into the session. And really it boiled down to me as: "why not?" Space saving is minimal, quality WILL be higher, no one loses. More data, more headroom, more editing latitude. That's WHY it's that way on location. The motto should be Quality in, Quality out. ✌🏼 Hope this helps. More of a philosophical approach than anything really groundbreaking 🤷🏼‍♂️

@robert_starling here's some more information from iZotope: www.izotope.com/en/learn/what-is-dithering-in-audio.html#:~:text=Why%20reduce%20the,errors%20and%20distortion. "When mixing a project, applying effects, and mastering, it's always advantageous to work at the highest sample rates and bit-depths possible on your system. This allows for greater resolution in all mixing and effects, and results in fewer roundoff errors and artifacts. However, there are times when you’ll need to adjust the sample rate and bit depth of your audio so it’s compatible with the intended audio playback format. The process of reducing the bit-depth of audio (i.e. downsampling) however, results in quantization errors and distortion."

Your videos are so helpful! They are quick and to the point, thorough without the overwhelm and the visuals are helpful for taking notes or retaining the information. They are easy to understand and binge worthy with so many to choose from lol, and most importantly, you have a laid back approach that is thoughtful with newbies in mind by providing good budget friendly advice. Thank you so much! 🎉

I dont know much about voice acting, but here's what i do. I'll find something I'm interested in, usually a game, then i'll find some voice lines from the game. I'll read what the voice line says (instead of listening to the voice lines) on the games wiki via text form. Then i'll try my best to act/say that line. After i've done that I will import the game voice file into my DAW so i can compare how I did to the professional voice actor. I'll repeat this and save it as a project so I always have it.

My thought: listening to your voice on this podcast is meaningful for me relative to voiceover. I can tell your voice is trained/developed for VO; on the other hand you sound natural and free-flowing. For me, you just provided a freeVO sample session. Peace.

Thank you so much! I have a weird internal sinus cavity click that is consistently within words and always wondered where it was. Thank you for helping me find it! It usually exists in the 3.5-5.5k range, so I was able to remove it using your method. Thank you! My next goal is to figure out how to auto heal or reduce it once I hone in on the range some more. I appreciate your helpful videos. Know that they are helping students learn math all around the world! 😃

Hello, great info. I'm trying to get into voice acting. I have a serious tight budget due to the 6 month strike. I have a laptop MBP, which has a fan that engage when it gets a bit hot. Ia there a work around if I have no other choice? Are there apps/ plug in s that I can use in post to eliminate the background fan noise? Thanks so much!

if you are represented by an agent, should you put their info on your website?
@Voiceacting101
@Voiceacting101 11 ай бұрын
If your agreement with the agent is to funnel all work through them - Yes, I would put their info your website. If you're not under that requirement, and are comfortable working/negotiating directly with a client, then I would make the CTA to contact you. You could still have a page that features your agent reps if you wanted.
