why would you set a weather dependant curve for underfloor heating and another for radiators when you fit a low loss header?as your thermostats can be calling for both underfloor and radiators together and all water is mixed in the low loss header anyway, but in general a nice job,

I would also use a rubber gasketed flare cap with a small hole drilled into the cap to test the Schraeder valve tightness after the system has refrigerant pressure. I would not introduce leak soap into the Schraeder valve cavity. Then I would replace with the factory caps.

I would also place the micron gauge as far away from the vacuum pump as possible. This means on the liquid line valve in this case. You may have 63 microns at the pump location but a higher reading on the liquid line valve. Granted, you have short lines and a deep vacuum here but as a rule of thumb I would want the micron gauge as far away from the vacuum pump as possible.

I would also exercise the valves on the core removal tool to allow any air to be released from the valve. I would do this before starting the vacuum pump each time.

great job and use of the latest tools Bravo!! I would add a nitrogen sweep initially however before the first vacuum. Why not take advantage of the dry nitrogen pressure to push the oxygen and any water vapor out before starting the vacuum.

nice video but I would never put a set of gauges on an Inverter Heat Pump. You loose refrigerant and because it is critically charged it affects the system greatly. Access sensors from Fieldpiece or Yellow Jacket are available that will hook up Bluetooth to your phone and if needed you can hook up a short 3-foot hose to them if you need to adjust charge. Also, the indoor units need to be properly power washed and then rinsed properly including the drain pan. The blower wheel needs to be removed and cleaned as well. There are kits to do this work to protect the walls and floors. I know these units are only 18 months old but when they get 2 or 3 years old, they will need a more in-depth cleaning as I have described.

i would have thought mixing with cold water just means less water needs to be heated so it's a zero-sum game. surely the inefficiency comes from losing heat while it sits in the tank but i think i heard him say that's minimal nowadays.

Fascinating stuff and further convinces me to go air to air. My mini split system has a SCOP of 4.1 and it produces a much more pleasant heat, albeit it was bought for its cooling capability. So in theory with my respective cost/kw for gas and electricity it should be approximately 20% cheaper to run than gas. Unfortunately I do not have a COP value so perhaps my figures are slewed but unlike gas heating the wait time is pretty much instant and I actually achieve setpoint which is something the gas system struggles to do.

Why do people who install heat pumps always seem to have a huge water cylinder? Unless someone has a bath every day no one needs much hot water - showers are about the only thing and a simple 10.5 kw electric shower does the job. Big waste of space and so much pipework for no reason.

Personally if I was keeping tools in the garage (as this client was) I would have had piped both the inlet and exhaust to outside. I think you overlooked the impact on the dew point in the garage.

Would the Daikin split system with DHW option recover heat when the indoor units are in cooling mode? I've seen some desuperheater products in the US that use air cons to heat up their swimming pools. Probably won't be a VRV type heat recovery system as those are quite expensive.

With a bit of a search, I have yet to find any cases of legionella in single family domestic houses in the UK. I have found some in multi occupancy buildings like flats but not houses. Can anybody demonstrate otherwise? I'd be interested to know.
@Aethid
@Aethid 2 ай бұрын
50C is hot enough to prevent legionella from growing, and it also requires stagnant water, which doesn't happen if you are using your hot water. The rules are overly conservative, and legionella is not a realistic problem.

Don’t follow this chap’s analogy, heating water to cool it down is energy wasted? No it’s not wasted because if one has lower temperature water then one needs to draw more of it from the tank, that means the same energy used. If one has a larger storage of hotter water it goes a lot further and the only difference is the energy losses through the wall of the tank.. in our case it’s not that much but more to the point it’s in a cupboard that is used to air our clothes, that small heat loss is also inside our house.
@BenIsInSweden
@BenIsInSweden 10 ай бұрын
There's about a 20% difference in heat loss between 50C and 60C stored in a cylinder due to the greater difference between the water temp and the surrounding area. So unless you're using all the tank and at a rate faster than it can be heated, you're better off making use of more water at the lower temperature. Because during the time you're not using it you're wasting extra energy on keeping it at 60C.
