After taking a second look because of a rude comment someone made I watched your video again. Where you have your BARE GROUNDING CONDUCTORS/WIRES on the neutral center of box is wrong. The well pump being 220 volts has no neutral. That bar is isolated from ground which means it won't trip a breaker. The fix is if you leave those bare copper wires there tie one of them to the metal box thus grounding the box. I'm retired now but have spent my life doing electrical work, from a house and ending up working on power lines at the end.......Good Luck
@restoringbonaire4 ай бұрын
So connect a wire from those bare wires to the box. Thanks, I will do that!
@AmericanOne96214 ай бұрын
@@restoringbonaire Yes, that will protect you if you ever have a fault. I'm assuming you have a pressure switch somewhere also which turns the pump on and off. I know I'm just a random guy on the internet but for whats it's worth I'm retired and spent a life time doing electrical work. I am licensed in two states Tn/N.C. and have wired from houses to retiring working for a utility co. setting poles and hanging transformers. At any rate just trying to help you.....

Not sure how good it is to run those pumps dry? Probably also getting a lot of sediment. Assuming the box is wired up right that should be mostly dead when the disconnect is pulled out so as long as you don't touch the usually semi insulated incoming connection. Although definitely need a properly labeled electrical panel. and those non-contact testers are a pass fail not necessarily a confirmation they can have false positives, it's a idiot stick to make sure you're not working on something live but you also have to wave it nearby before you touch anything a habit that needs to be built. Which is usually the part that everybody forgets. If this is regular occurrence might be worth hooking up a small indicator lamp at the disconnect. Although it doesn't look like it's in the greatest condition to begin with using non-outdoor rated romax cable.

Isn't that a fused disconnect? You have incoming power on the top lugs but without the removable disconnect installed, both fuses and the load lugs are fully isolated from power. You can literally touch anything inside the box except the 2 line lugs at the top (which are intentionally out of the way so you can safely work on this box with the power feed on). I understand the scary experiance is that you assumed all power feeding the box was turned off when it wasn't...
@restoringbonaire4 ай бұрын
True, I just didn't realize that the top lugs were energized and that I was so close to 230V above 8' of water
@therealromster4 ай бұрын
@@restoringbonaire Damn that was close, there should be some clear perspex guard in place to shield accidental contact with the live lugs above the isolator. Multi-meter and a inductive power sensor, heck why don't them fuse boxes not have neon lights in them to show if it's live or not. If it was me I would have a disconnector on the outside on a pole inside a weather proof enclosure. Lucky this time around.

Alway test with a meter before working on anything mains related, even if you're sure you have switched everything off. Also, why are you using a borehole deep well pump, which cost a fortune, when you could be using a much cheaper standard submersible pump.

Most likely if you just get a 120 tingle unless your in Europe. Your body is a giant resistor and so is your boots and dry hands. I have 120 volts with very dry hands and not known it was alive. To get 240v you would have hold both circuits at same time which you are not likely to ever do. If you had fuses in and were connecting it and had one already connect and had the copper touch one hand and the other hand touch the terminal you were to put into then most likely lights out as you completed the circuit.
