The male and the female gaze is usually full of the stereotypes of their own group and other groups, the non binary gaze is more neutral and thus tends to have less stereotypes. Im not non-binary but I really like the nb gaze. Good critique of the limited idea of nb by most of the people .

Of course they had non binary people back in the early days. They had people who believed in witches and all kinds of crazy things. Who would think people in the past were more reasonable than they are today. It's quite the opposite. Even today there's a subset of people who still believe in witches and all kinds of crazy things.

Trans -queer people always have existed But unlimited multi genders and neo pronouns are relatively recent phenomenon. Different kinds of genders is a social construct of western academia in recent years. Gender ideology is unscientific dogmatic ideology -pushed by activists under the guise of social "studies" "actively encouraging people to use X language" ? That's the opposite of organic change -development. Inorganic, artificial, indoctrination, propaganda...actively encouraging people to use non gendered language is pushing down on people's throats. It's Policing language ! "western gender binary" Wtf? Just like colonialism, slavery, conquest ("stolen" land) or genocide are not invented by white europeans -gender binary is universal ! Because Homo sapiens is sexually reproducing BINARY species.

Now, are we doing that white people thing of taking indigenous' peoples' complicated behaviors and convoluting them into fitting our current fad? Like in the 70s when every ambiguous cave caving was 'proof' of ancient aliens? How many of these examples that you rush past with no explanation or context are *androgynous* trickster figures? As in, combining male and female? Not the self-righteous conception of non-binary today, which is saying, 'I'm so special I don't fit either.'
