Do you have any Hornby catalogues from the 1920's (if they even exist) It would be great to see one from the very early days of British model trains. Cheers!

Nice one! I've never actually seen an Oxford Models catalogue before. I couldn't read the text clearly but enough to work out what they are. I think sometimes the focus isn't 100% as it varies between videos. Look forward to the later catalogue which includes newer models. Happy Holidays!

This was the very first catalogue I had. I was 9 (65 now). I would spend hours poring over it and it completely fell to pieces. Dad bought me another one. That was on it's way out too when next years came out. I recently picked up a copy from eBay. So many memories.

It seems the pre-production R997 looked better colour wise, as oppose to the awful orange production version. What was Hornby thinking.

Again I must comment, class 800 are not like HSTs. The driving cars are NOT power cars so you don't have power/dummy cars, the power cars are the intermediate cars with the engines.

I think the ones with the Euro couplings are definitely HO. Their class 33 in HO is much smaller than the OO version, I have both. I specifically sought out a HO scale class 33 in order to use the chassis for a DMU kit bash project. The Lima HO coaches are quite small too. If you want to turn a Dapol Kitmaster Park Royal Railbus into a bubble car, the empty body shell clips straight on to a Lima HO scale Class 33 chassis. The HO version is a perfect fit, the OO version is way too big. Just throwing that in for fun. 😊

In 1953, the then new Triang Railways, expanded their locomotive range by adding the R.51 "Jinty" 0-6-0T tank loco. At the time, nobody realised that this marked the impending doom of Hornby Dublo, 12 years later. The model was powered by an X01 (disc commutator) motor, with a double length magnet installed. Removing the motor meant dismantling the chassis. The cellulose acetate was painted satin black and the boiler front had a clear space under it (a "see under" boiler). The model had alcohol BR unicycling lion transfers, on the water tank sides and tampo printed running numbers, on the coal bunker sides. This model was a tad underpowered, compared to later X03 & X04 versions. I own one of these very first production run R.52 "Jinty" locos.
