Disabling the check of certificates validity in drivers is a MAJOR security risk and should only be used for a limited amount of time and just for installing old drivers whose certificate is expired.

Not true. Most websites and software developers generate their own certificates. Microsoft couldn't catch a cold, let alone a bad certificate.

Disable secure boot in your system BIOS. Just for the record, just because you cannot get something to work does not mean it is broken for everyone else.

Thanks for responding. Good stuff but I think you have more talent than that would entail. Python, to me, is code-candy. It is only slightly more difficult than the old GWBasic, especially if you have a feeling for loigic as I know you and I both do. I started with 8086 assembly language in early 1980's, using a Kaypro II and CP/M but am retired now. I started developing an interest in what you wouild call "red teaming" but I work alone. It's fine because I get a pension from the gov't. But I do have a keen interest in launching attacks with powershell and office macros. I have developed several of these so far and tested them "in the wilds". I don't extort anyone... just enjoy playing with this stuff. Powershell attacks are virtually unpreventable, at least in the beginning. Few business entities can or will afford a blue team budget until they have been attacked at least once. Anyway, pentesting as an income just doesn't interest me. I think that quantum emailing and foreign antagonists, e.g. Tencent, offer lucrative targets. I have no aversion to attacking enemies of this country. But given these talents, I wonder if there is another way of exploiting them without selling my soul to the gov't. BTW, I am 82 years old. What are your thoughts on all this?

@@howardbarnes5604 My thoughts on this? Good for you; you're 82 and still banging on the keyboard. I'm 71 and finishing my resort/retirement home construction in the Philippines. Should be done with the last remaining hotel rooms by the end of February. I'd be done with all this if I could make it as a resort owner. The Python turn came about as an instructor. I have been trying to learn Python for the last 2+ years to extend my cybersecurity skills as an online instructor. I just wrote a course for Python fundamentals, and I'm working on another course for Python for Pentesters and Scripting for Pentesters. Same with AI. It's all tied in with extending my Cybersecurity skills as an instructor. I have no desire to write code or develop a program. The last time I went after someone as a hacker, I got suspended for thirty days as a Udemy instructor.

Unfortunately I got an error. "An error has occurred setting the element data. The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted." What do I do now?

The solution is in the error message. Disable secure boot in your BIOS. Go through the threads to find the links.

This worked, thank you. I have no idea why the hell microsoft decide that after all these years my copy of windows wasn't valid. This is an old table that I upgraded to win10 with no problems. That was almost three years ago. About a month ago it went through one of microsucks "You're not allowed to use your computer until we decide you can" updates and after the restart this activate message popped up. I still have the original box with the original code but it wouldn't work. I've tried many, many others I've found online but none of them worked. Windows came on this computer I bought new. The update to 10 was by the book and went without a problem. My copy of Windows IS legitimate but for some reason microsucks wants me to pay for it a second time. Seems like every day microsucks pushes me closer and closer to becoming a Linux user.

M$ locked me out of my Skype account for a week for spamming. I have three people I connect with, and I never send out bulk messages. I got back in yesterday and immediately canceled my subscription. I'm now using OpenPhone.

I have had the exact same happen with my copy of windows!! They blamed that is was an upgraded activation code and was bound to 1 machine, even though I had several machines over the years that were able to use the key, all of the sudden I got a new machine yesterday and it stopped working :( Customer support is not helping even transfering the old code to a new machine, even though their website states it is possible...

Perhaps you can check your bios settings and turn off the secure boot.
