Thanks! Not an easy song to sing. That’s what I’ve always loved about Sondheim (that and the fact I share his birthday)! Nothing he composed was ever intended to be easy. He really wanted you to think and connect with what you’re singing. Even the seemingly “simple” songs, like, “Send In The Clowns”, hold great weight in their lyrics. This song, “Not A Day Goes By”, is one of those pieces which rarely fails to make me cry. Especially the way Bernadette Peters sings it! 💜

This character and this song are quite special to me. It’s what made me first fall in love with Sondheim. My school did this show when I was in 10th grade. I would have been The Witch but I wasn’t a Senior… So, I was her Understudy. Almost had to go on Opening Night! I was Jack’s Mother instead. Lots of fun but I’d dearly love to be The Witch one day!
