I’m confused with the 120volt power supply to a 15 amp breaker? What does that mean? Can I not make plug or use a plug for this part?

The DC power supply requires a 120V input (line and neutral) that typically goes directly to a breaker on the main panel. Since this device is used for rapid shutdown and will turn off your array if it loses power, we do not recommend plugging the device into a receptacle in your home. If someone inadvertently disconnects it you will lose array production since the TS4s will go into rapid shutdown.

is the internet required for commissioning if i dont want monitoring? (you don't make an rsd and optimization only device so i have to get the ts4-o-a.) if the internet is not available, do i loose the RSD capability? surely not right?

Great question! You will need internet at first since you must fully commission the TS4-A-O and complete Discovery for RSD to enable. After that, the TS4-A-O does not need the internet for rapid shutdown or optimization. But why wouldn't you want to know what is going on with your system? However, your application would impact the warranty conditions since we require an internet connection. You will drop from 20 years to only 5 years.

It depends on how many strings each inverter has. Since the RSS Core can accommodate 10 strings, as long as both inverters have 5 strings max, then a single transmitter may be used.

If the grid goes down and the hybrid inverter switches into backup mode, can the inverter supply power to the load center with just solar input only or does it needs the addition of batteries to do that?

Every hybrid inverter in the world must have a battery to provide power when the grid goes down. In backup mode, solar power is used to charge the batteries and power loads if there is enough left over.

Absolutely! A hybrid inverter does not need a battery to operate and may only run on solar. However, it will not provide backup power when the grid goes down without a battery.

I think you guys need to learn how to truly describe your products, most new people getting in to solar just want to save of crazy high electric rates, they don’t really care about off-grid they just want grid-interactive products thats crazy easy to install, like back feeding your main panel from the grid/AC connection on the inverter, and using any 48v battery with coms etc. take a look at the EG4 18Kpv and make it for a much better price and you’ll have a winning product in this space for new and existing solar customers.

OMG Tigo i like your power optimizers but omg you should get rid of everyone who work on this new product, major flaw you can’t call any of your inverter hybrid because it support PV and Battery lmao 🤣, an Hybrid inverter is one that does GRID interactive, like 240v backfeed your main panel with PV or Batteries in conjunction with the grid!, and the ability to sell back to the grid if needed, only inverters with that ability are given the title Hybrid, you are the new guy on the block why start to confuse people who are new to solar etc.. also 120v inverters are mainly for off-grid small deployment, make better inverter with 240v for large off or on grid applications with competitive price, or EG4’s will continue to walk all over you!! You’ll never get in this space, best of luck.

Hi a Question. I have 9 panels on one string on a ballast mounted tilt system. (Four panels on a roof for the other string). Three of the panels of the 9 panels string will get some shading. Can i just put the Tigo DC optimisers only on these 3 panels or do I need them on all the 9 panels of that string. Help

Oh. Its tigo. Thats why. Im so glad alexandria renew didnt use your product. I was responsible for them not purchasing this. 2 companies ill never install or service. Tigo and Delta. Not worth the liability to my insurance when it eventually burns a hole in someones roof. Oh and the sites i mentioned that burned, all were installed correctly which is why you guys settled.

@Tigo_Flex_MLPE my comment isn't to help your company. My comment is to mainly mock but also make installers aware of the liability and how counties in a state banned your product. All of our electricians are journeyman at minimum and any solar tech touching wiring is NABCEP. We do weekly meetings with product updates and quarterly company wide meetings so when people like you sound stupid asking questions like, "did they take our course", of course they did. They are fucking professionals. Weve worked extensively with solaredge r&d and set their SOP for troubleshrooting synergy inverters. We are second to none in commercial industry east coast. And your companies products start fires.

@@Tigo_Flex_MLPE stupid noob question here but my (probably flawed) understanding is that the RS devices at the module level initiate rapid shutdown when the signal from this device is lost, correct? Wouldn't a power failure from the utility then initiate a rapid shutdown of my panels, and subsequently kill my solar array? That seems to be counter to what I'd want in a situation like that, where I'd be depending on my panels to act as a backup? I'm sure I'm missing something, just trying to understand how it all works.

Multiple orientation question, I have a quote which has 20 panels total. 10 are on one string East facing and then 5 South & 5 North on the other string all with optimisers. Is the north/South string going to be ok? Using a Solis 6kW hybrid inverter. Panels are JA Solar 440w bifacial and I'm in the UK. Cheers

We love complex roof geometries like yours, Steve! These are applications where optimization shines, no pun intended. The optimizers will work as hard as they can to harvest as much energy as possible from those modules. Although we do not recommend looping a string over multiple roof faces, the system will still perform well. One concern would be the placement of the Tigo Access Point (TAP) since it is installed onto a module in the center of the array. Since you have multiple strings covering 3 different orientations, we want to ensure the TAP will have a strong signal to reach the other TS4s on their roof faces. So ideally I'd have them all on their own string but could have them on the same if needed 👍 My roof is a little odd as the house was extended but should be able to get the TAP in the middle of the roof and reach all the panels as its all fairly close together. Hard to explain in comment but on main east roof and then the extension to the rear which would have been too wide the keep the new ridgeline below the original ridge height so have a double peak roof at the back, so essentially 4 roof faces (2 north and 2 south). It may be that I have a second invert running the battery so might get them to split anyway but at least I know it's not an issue if I don't. Thanks again and I look forward to generating so sun power soon!

Great question! For a single transmitter and Core, the total round trip distance of the DC lines must be less than 300 meters. If you use the dual Core Transmitter then this distance is extended to 500 meters. Actually! Solar is still a great value under NEM 3.0 in CA! Just add solar with batteries to store any excess solar production in the batteries and avoid sending it to the grid, and use your stored energy to midgate high Time of Use (TOU) rates between 4pm and 9pm and to power your home overnight. I'm quoting solar and battery systems that have less than an 8-year payback and include a 30-year 100% solar parts and labor warranty with roof leak protection. Effectively, producing your own energy at a fixed cost that's 30% to 50% less than the utility $0.36 to over $0.60 per kWh rates that increase yearly at well over 8% per year. We expect CA utility rates to double in the next 10 years. Since 2011 I've personally helped over 1,000 homeowners protect their homes and families against high CA utility rates. Love to help! Heated arguments have ensued on many occasions where I just tell them "do what the f___ing manual says to do". You could just install one but it will need the CCA and TAP to have full 25 year warranty coverage. At that point, you may as well install 7 more and have full monitoring on all modules of your array. You will also get reclaimed energy on the modules and the optimizer will reduce module mismatch for the lifetime of the system.

Our power company is asking that we install our rapid shutdown buttons inside of a bubble cover. Is there an option for this with tigos rapid shut down button?

I've got a tigo transmitter and core sitting in my warehouse. It might be an older version, but it doesn't have any indication of black or white markings. If I use it would I be good to just install the core either way?

😂RTFM! I understand Greg 100% and the staff even if I don't work there. The manual goes straight to the point with easy instructions. Installers frequently install the TS4 as if they were microinverters and think there is no need to read instructions. I have seen some youtubers make the mistake too and have issues. I have been educating myself on solar, because I want to make a full install on my own eventually.
