That was a Public Information Film. [Fades up BBC1 clock] The time now is now approaching Twenty-Seven minutes to Two and Sunday Evening is drawing to a close here on BBC1. A reminder that if you are staying up and want to make a night of it, that Alan Dedicoat is on the Nightride on Radio 2 right now, the World Service has News through the night on Radio 4 and there is news, sport and Conversation over on Radio 5 Live. Here though on BBC1 this is (insert continuity announcer’s name), on behalf of all of the team still working here at BBC Television Centre in London, wishing you a very good night. Goodnight. [Presses the National Anthem button and fades up the BBC1 Globe, before fade to black and fading up testcard tone and Testcard F]

"With everything all in order, that'll do it for BBC One for tonight. Just a reminder that BBC News 24 will relay through the night tomorrow. That's right, we're no longer leaving you with black and tone. But if you still need more BBC, we recommend the sounds of BBC Radio. Radio 1 has Steve Wright taking us through the night, Radio 2 right now has Ken Bruce with Zoe Ball soon to follow at 6. Radio 5 Live has comments, sports, news and coverage of football right now and on Radio 4, they've just gone home for tonight and are relaying the World Service on the long wave. But for now on behalf of all my colleagues at Broadcasting House, this is Al Dupres wishing you a safe and peaceful night. Goodnight.

Heil dir im Siegerkranz, Herrscher des Vaterlands! Heil, Kaiser, dir! (1871-1918) … It's also the Liechtenstein one (Oben am jungen Rhein)! For such a dirge, it's actually used in an awful lot of places! (I'm British, and mostly proud to be, but even I admit it's a bit dull! [The one advantage being that it's very easy to play.] If you want to rescue it a bit, play the Jacob fanfare before it - it then sounds majestic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opnGkIyhabyCraM)

@@closedaccount411 Google it - there are actually several verses (including one that's rather nasty to Scotland, which obviously isn't used now; it - or at least that verse, I don't know - was written before the union, I think). It's one of the few anthems (other than the ones that are purely instrumental, of course) that don't (in the main verse anyway) mention the country they represent at all. I always think of the two Roman legionaries in "Asterix in Britain", caller Sendervictorius and Appianglorius. (The former would have to be rewritten now!)
