I’m an ultra runner and have one tight hip and my piriformis seems to stay “on” This is helpful. Have been working on stretching it for a year. Is there anything else I can do?
@rushallison3 күн бұрын
@@mswendyjae Hi. Stretching is good but won’t get the job done because it’s also weak at the same time. Piriformis an overzealous volunteer for lazy hip, back and ankle muscles so when you strengthen the lazy muscles and retrain Piriformis to work WITH with those instead of FOR them, you’ll get permanent relief. Without seeing your movement I don’t know what it’s compensating for. If you’re open to it, I give free half-hour consults on zoom and We could talk a little more in detail about it.

Wow. I didn't know my IT bands were so tight. Why isn't a foam roller safe?
@rushallison21 күн бұрын
A foam roller can destroy the IT band tissue and it's really painful. And it's' not like you can just repair that kind of injury so I always advise people to stay off the foam rollers, especially for IT bands.

Have a egsercise for the osteitis pubis ?
@rushallison28 күн бұрын
Hi. I can help you with that. Because it's an inflammatory condition, usually due to exhaustion of surrounding muscles and tissue, I need more information. Do you play a sport or run? What are you doing consistently with your body?
@FujeTheCircassianPrincess28 күн бұрын
@rushallison i was playing football while osteitis pubis. Stop the football for 6 months and wait
@rushallison27 күн бұрын
@ I see! Football’s repetitive movements, if glute medius is weak, tend to inflame the medial areas. Without seeing you move, one of the first things I’d look at is glute medius strength. I have a number of videos about this. Footballers usually have weak glute medius relative to other muscles. And this could likely be one part of the issue.
After my worst lower back injury (I've had many disk herniations; even some that healed) I had to start sleeping on my back and haven't stopped in about years. I used to side sleep but at some point I started to wish that I could detach my arm like a doll. Great tip!

Any tips on people who need to sleep on their sides because of avid reflux?
@rushallisonАй бұрын
Sure. Support the neck curve from the side. Sleeping on the left side helps with digestion. Some people benefit from putting a pillow between the knees to help align the spine and hips. Have you tried that?

@rushallisonАй бұрын
When I was healing my labral tear, I took 5 minutes every morning and 10-20 every night dedicated to the hips. I used these exercises often in the rotation of exercises. That's usually what I recommend and it's proven over the years to work to take a little time on each end of the day. Wishing you all the hip health.

Allison loved your help here. I feel I have difficulty with one of exercise shown : hip opening & heel up , pressing the block . Do I work to feel glut engaged in this one or groin ?
@rushallisonАй бұрын
Great question. This is a tricky position. Work to feel the glute medius engage while the groin is quiet. That might mean at first you don't work with all your might, but just a little. This is so that glute medius will be isolated - the main character - of the exercise. This will train your glute medius to work without the groin taking over, which will have your hip function better.

Each time I stretch my hips legs or anything, they lock up and go numb. I’m in excruciating pain. Any advice?
@rushallison5 ай бұрын
Hi. I'm sorry you are dealing with that. Stretching, especially stretching without strengthening, is not necessarily the best thing to do. If this tensile stretch did not work and caused more pain, you may need to strengthen the opposing muscle groups and more internal muscles groups to cause a reflex release instead of a stretch. I have some gentle exercises that will help determine which ones you need to strengthen/relax ate determine what will give you relief. You are welcome to reach out if you want to chat more about it. @rushallison6 ай бұрын
Yes! Strengthening the smaller muscles in back of the shoulder offers more balance when the front of the shoulder gets more action. That strength has the shoulder joint position change to a more balanced position so it's instant relief. Pretty cool!
