Do you use batting on a Grandmother Flower Garden Quilt? Do you use a backing?
@thestrawberrythief42362 ай бұрын
Hi :) yes, I use both.
@thestrawberrythief42362 ай бұрын
Usually, the stitching together of the Hexies for a Grandmother Flower Garden Quilt will create a flimsy (quilt top) and then batting and backing are used to complete the quilt

@thestrawberrythief92993 ай бұрын
Hi Susanne, what a lovely idea! Yes, you could absolutely make a hexie placemat using 1" or 2" hexies. As for the size of the placemat, we like to make ours custom to our needs, so we lay out a plate, cutlery (and a glass if you'd like that to sit on the mat also) and measure a rectangle for these items to. sit comfortably. Alternatively there are standard sizes which you can google :)

Never heard of threading a needle the "right" way
@jojorey68862 ай бұрын
Thread has a nap; if you thread your needle from the other end the friction from sewing would go against the nap. It’s just better to go with the nap. If you knit something using the wrong end or go against the nap, your item will pill more easily.

I have many hexies in Liberty fabric which I have made into flowers, but not joined to a quilt top. Having seen your beautiful style with the hexie I so wish I hadn’t put the same middle hexie (all the same colour) in the middle of each flower. So love how your design just works and blends in. Thank you for sharing.

First this is absolutely beautiful! I'm new to quilting and see your hexi's are double sided. Is there batting inside? Was this quilt as you go?

The hexies are not double-sided, once the hexies were stitched together the batting and backing was added.

I enjoy watching your techniques of sewing your hexagons together. I made one hexagon quilt my first quilt ever 44 years ago. I started my second hexagon quilt almost 10 years ago. I’m in the middle of quilting it. Seeing your techniques I think is good because when I did mine it never occurred to me that their were smarter ways of sewing them together. Again your quilt is very lovely thank you for sharing.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HEXI QUILT❣😲
@karentoynton8948 Жыл бұрын
I made flowers on the basis of what you had mentioned. Great.. However I have taken my design wall for a short period of time, down as changed the room around. So I have just been sewing Hexies a lot of time on my knee. It isn’t an easy task getting the quilt to be square . The quilt will end up 108x108 inches. What would you suggest could be an easier way to rectify this. I am slowly sorting, but it’s taking a long time with such a large size. Maybe I was wrong making one so large with hexies by hand. Hehe.

Love your liberty fabrics. I am in the process of doing a liberty fabric EPP myself at the moment. The. Choice of fabrics are lovely well worth the extra cost. Fabrics very random, but still go together really well. The quilt I am making is 108x108 inches. I have got 1.75 size hexagons, so it’s taking a good old while to do, but gives hours of pleasure sitting putting it together. Thank you for sharing your work with us.

Hi Robyn - do you tack through the three layers and with aurifil thread? Thank you
@thestrawberrythief92992 жыл бұрын
Hi Jemma, yes, the purpose of tacking is to hold all 3 layers in position while you quilt the project, once quilted the tacking can be removed, we use a 50wt Aurifil tread but you can use any thread.
@jemmamclees33362 жыл бұрын
Hi Robyn, so you only stitch through the top layer and the batting layer…..is that right??.. Thank you

Why not add half hexies? I'm new to EPP.
@thestrawberrythief92992 жыл бұрын
Hi Alison, you could absolutely use half hexies but you would need to calculate how many are needed to border the quilt and you would need some to be cut vertical and some horizontal so we prefer to trim at the end to give a neat straight line.
