Great overview and great jam Dan. I’m starting to see a pattern amongst home producers when it comes to gear. I have about half of what you have plus a shit ton more. Such as the Perkons, Pulsar, TR8S. Im similar in feeling about the Perkons and Pulsar, but i spend the most time on the Perkons , and when its hitting good its magic, but you have to put time in for the sweet spots. And you say they have added sample playback? If so it will be the dream box. Anyway great vid and overview.
@rateandfollow13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Yes out of the two I think Perkons would stay. I've had a TR8s twice and just can't gel with the menu. I even got the 6s dirt cheap but there's something about it I just don't really enioy. As for the Perrkons - yes the latest FW has sample playback on voice 4! You can choose from 3 samples which you drop onto the SD card (labelled Sample 1, 2 3 etc). They've also made the delay sync'd, which is a huge thing too. Talk me out of the Syntrx 😅👀

What does Rate & Follow mean? Bitrate & MIDI out? It sounds like a version of "Like & Subscribe" we have at home
@rateandfollow13 күн бұрын
Hey Chris. So Rate & Follow is a setting used on the Virus TI when configuring filter and saturation. Rate+Follow: Rate reduction with Key Follow. I actually used the name for a track I released back in 2010 with a mate of mine, unaware of course that the terminology in social media would completely change! My artist name for many years was [sic] and I loved it but it was impossible to find in search engines, and labels and DSPs would keep getting it wrong. I knew I needed a name change, and Rate & Follow was the one I kept coming back to. It's not meant to be a blatant call to action, but it is what it is :)
@wackerburg13 күн бұрын
Hi Dan, that is such a great setup! Mine is similiar but different at the same time, haha 😀 A tad more vintage-based, Roland x0x-fan over here \m_ Also no DAW involved after I was never happy with syncing it to the hardware units. Anyway, I hope I can finally assemble it further during the upcoming weeks. Cheers from Germany and happy new year!
@rateandfollow13 күн бұрын
HNY! So an original 909? Very jealous if so! Been tempted but I would be afraid to use it! I found Bitwig syncing is pretty solid and the MidiClock helps. Will you share the new setup once done?
@wackerburg13 күн бұрын
@@rateandfollow Yes, the original one. I finally pulled the trigger about 3 years ago after using various 909 samples - ranging from free to paid sets like Samples from Mars or Goldbaby. What a difference it is, did not expect that tbh. But since I was pretty much raised on 909 sounds, it really felt like coming home. And yes² - that's the plan basically. To make some jam videos here and there and possibly a tour like you did! I already use a Multiclock, but mostly as an advanced masterclock. That start-stop-in-time feature is nice, latency isn't an issue with the OG machines for some reason. Especially when the slave to DIN sync.
@rateandfollow13 күн бұрын
@@wackerburg Yeah samples are great but nothing beats the hands-on feel of a x0x machine. I want to love the RD9 more as it definitely offers some features the TR-8 doesn't (I particulalry like the attack and sustain) but the Ride being temperamental is a big issue for me, and there's something about the immediacy of the faders that I love. I have seen 909s going for £4k but I really have to ask if it's worth it. But then you see big artists using them and think 'there must be a reason' lol.

Great video though, saved and sub'd for when I do when the lottery and qualify to finance this piece of drum mACHINE history. - Seriously, give us P2 @ 9.99 please. Sure, P for IPhone is great and thx - but i am a super serious producer and totally need to be able to make sample kits to show off my collection of sampled from radio snare drums from an old obscure AM station and some cool number station blips that i used to recreate..... kidding. See, I need P2 for $10 - sans I go absolute mad.

In your example at 5:17 I think you meant polymetric not polyrhythmic. (polymeter = different numbers of same-length steps, downbeats are not aligned; whereas polyrhythm = different numbers of steps within the same length measure, downbeats are aligned.) You need to use the Divide Mode to create polyrhythms on Patterning.
@rateandfollow7 ай бұрын

@@rateandfollow It's all good. Polymeters are a lot of fun and are at the core of phased rhythm techniques. The cool thing is Patterning does both!
