This is difficult for senior golfers but just coming close to getting left shoulder under your chin will increase club head speed significantly. Flexibility exercise and practice will allow you to come close to this critical check point.

I agree with everything you say in the vid. However, the butt end of the putter seems to travel a lot in your stroke. I was taught that it's better to keep the butt end of the putter pointing at the same place on the torso as address throughout the stroke. If you don't agree maybe something you could cover in a future vid?

You definitely don’t want that as it will be adding loft and closing the face to the left for a right handed player! That is something that’s very important to understand!

I like your recommendation to neutralize your habit or comfortable shot. I'm pretty sure I've heard that same advice come from the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Sam Sneed, Bobby Jones, Steve Elkington, and Nick Faldo. Even though I'm prone to the opposite of your student in the video (more likely to get sloppy or lazy and overdue the natural draw) my best comes when I have the club come down through the forearm in delivery, and the face action to match.

At what position in the swing? Are you able to get into the waiter holding a tray position at the top of your swing. (Right hand and right wrist if you're right handed).

@ I can get into that position when I’m practicing a swing at a slow speed. But regular swing speed it always goes into the cupped position.

Thanks for the vid! Love that kids swing. Sorry that this question isn’t regarding topics covered in this video, but had a question regarding using pinky squeeze in left hand as a way to set club as covered in a vid a few years ago. You still teach that or more of pressure in pad of hand as I’ve heard you say in more recent videos?
@systemoptimizer3542
@systemoptimizer3542 Күн бұрын
I think Adam would likely tell you the two work together. The left pinky by applying pressure in the squeeze applies pressure upward, and the left palm applies pressure downward. The two counter balance each other to create a secure grip. Take pressure out of either and you'll lose grip of the club.

Dan, thank you so much! We love Pinehurst and the Southern Pines area… we do have some good news. We are going to be somewhat close as we are going to be setting one up at Kiawah in South Carolina! We’re going to do a couple there. We have one in San Diego every month. We are also going to do six in Connecticut and two in Chicago this year!

Butt of the club towards the ball at the top of the back swing is literally how I learned consistency. I spent thousands on lessons, not a single instructor told me that. As soon as I saw a simple diagram on it, it all clicked and i fired my instructor.

It would be helpful to a full demonstration of the situation with arms/hands naturally hanging like Duval's. And does that also require strong trail hand more under the handle in order to prevent the natural internal shoulder rotation that causes OTT (and it should help keeping elbow tucked?).
@PorzakGolf
@PorzakGolf 7 күн бұрын
this is strictly talking about lead arm, and one thing is for sure…if you have a strong lead hand, you better counter it with a weaker right! Like you’re ringing out a towel
@meyer7262
@meyer7262 2 күн бұрын
@PorzakGolf So actually with this type of natural wrist hang it would be better to have more neutral lead hand with strong trail hand. This would keep the trail shoulder more internal and elbow tucked.
@PorzakGolf
@PorzakGolf 2 күн бұрын
You’re simply not fighting the natural rotation of YOUR lead arm and placing the hand on the grip accordingly…we have many videos explaining the role of the trail arm and how to grip that…u are NOT altering the trail hand accordingly. The stays a constant regardless of the lead hand
@meyer7262
@meyer7262 2 күн бұрын
I'm an outlier. The back of my hands point directly forward when standing upright with natural hang. If I don't strengthen the trail hand my whole process becomes out of kilter.
@PorzakGolf
@PorzakGolf 2 күн бұрын
@meyer7262 you should definitely have a stronger left and a weaker right! the strong right hand most likely a band aid to another flaw in the swing. That is probably why it makes you feel uncomfortable because you should never have that right hand underneath the club, especially if you’re telling me that the back of your hands face outward the way they do. it should feel like you’re wringing out a towel. you don’t wanna be dependent upon a strong right hand with a super shut faced to square the club up at impact as that will prevent your ability to rotate cleanly through the ball.

I have not seen all of the Porzak videos. But I did work on this one today at the range. I did feel like keeping the clubhead outside and above the hands for (most of) the backswing resulted in a very consistent clubhead coming into the ball on the downswing. There was fairly consistent solid contact. But there was no distance, no wrist action - the hands and wrists were very quiet. So how do I get both?

Great lesson! Why does a great golf swing (like Fred Couples) have his right elbow detach from his body and almost chicken wing at the top of his swing?
@PorzakGolf
@PorzakGolf 8 күн бұрын
Fred was unique and a true anomaly! We teach the path of the least amount of manipulation… also a swing that’s injury free and Fred unfortunately has a lot of back issues as a result of the manipulation he’s had to make with his downswing over the years. Not many have the ability, like Fred, to find the slot and be great through impact without great structure in the backswing.

I'm really enjoying your videos! You have a natural gift for teaching and as a new golfer who topped the ball I am now hitting the ball consistently . I had a problem with my second shot and have a 5 & 7 wood for that - I'm finally hitting them well because of your videos on set up and posture etc. but would still love a video on fairway woods.
