Enjoyed the discussion : my list #1 Band on the Run, #2 Ram ( which I loved the moment I heard it & never understood the criticism) and then either Venus & Mars or McCartney - with all the great solo/ Wings songs he has written, I am not sure any song is as greater than Maybe I’m Amazed especially the live version- and if we want to name one album in the last 15 years that stands out, my clear choice is New - a lot of really good songs that he still plays today including the single with honorable mention to Egypt Station.

As for the feminist side of Paul and his mates - many thanks for bringing it up here, guys, and have any of you read A Women's History of the Beatles by Christine Feldman-Barrett (2021)? A one great introspection, imho. (BTW, Rob's book is one of the many quoted there, and it makes it a great companion to the study.)

I'm really thankful for the justice for One of These Days - this is one of the most important of Paul's songs for me. I was so glad to hear a praise to it in Elliot's ranking and this is really satisfying to hear it again here!

But Paul was the one who wrote Too Many People before John came back with How do You Sleep, is that not so?
@lyna48733 күн бұрын
But Paul's song Too Many People was in response to John's savage interview about Paul in Rolling Stone magazine with his friend Jann Wenner (the owner and publisher who then went on a vendetta in his magazine trashing Paul's solo work)--check out what he was saying that started the whole public jousting between the two in public.

At last someone has the courage to go counter culture and argue that Maybe I'm Amazed is a better song than Imagine. Musically in terms of melody, compositonal skills including arrangement, verse and chorus and construction are all superior to Imagine which quite frankly remains one of the most nebulous yet self-righteous songs of all time. Melodcially Imagine feels like a dirge to me, with lyrics that mangae to be preachy, condscending and self-righteous all at the same time. Now we learn the lyrics came froma Yoko poem. Maybe I'm Amazed is pop/rock genius with it's use of chromtic scales and the power of Paul's vocals is stunning. The triuble with pop culture is just that - popularity whuch has never been a great indication of what is superior in artistic quality and integral. I accept it all boils down to personal opinion in the end but if that opinon is based on fact, knoweldge and good arguement then that should be far more convincing then mass hysteria reaction. And no I am not anti-John. Strawberry Fields Forever, Norwegian Wood, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds are works of inate genius. It is simply imo that the horrid murder of John elevated a very ordinary piece of middle of the road ballary to some kind of anthem. It simply is a very average song.

No, you're not the only one. I was 5 when it came out and always knew it (thanks to older brother Beatles fan) and always loved it. Didn't learn it was panned when it came out until early 2000s. That was a big shock. Glad to see it is universally loved now.

This so cool to listen to you, guys! I'm so glad to discover this channel! Many thanks to Jack for inviting Rob and Elliot - so far, they are my favourite authors on the Beatles. (Even though or More so that) being a millennial from Eastern Europe myself, I truly enjoy your reflections on the impact of the Beatles' music on culture and on your personal lives. It helps me to process my own feelings too and to discover the new layers of meaning. Speaking of George, it's just a few recent years since I've rediscovered his music - specifically, All Things Must Pass, and this gem saved my life oh so many times since then (including Beautiful Girl and Dehra Dun!). And there is a continuous process of discovering deep (or not so deep) cuts - like Be Here Now, Try Some Buy Some, Tired of Midnight Blue, Just For Today, Circles, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Thanks again for guiding us through his music!

And Wonderwall is also so enjoyable - especially after I've rewatched the movie (also this year), although I've loved e.g. Red Lady Too even before. BTW, fun fact - Cowboy Music resembles Silent Night a lot, but i see this rather as an irony.

33 1/3 have so many great songs! I also loved Brainwashed. I'd put that maybe 4 for me. 1) All Things Must Pass 2) 33 1/3 3) Living In the Material World and then probably Brainwashed and George Harrison.

I'm with John on the early Beatles. I just couldn't understand why they were such a big deal when they started. But by the time they got to Rubber Soul and Revolver, they got much more interesting. Interesting fact about Faster. George's self-titled album is my favorite Harrison album. Great stuff! It's so great that older musicians like John are so open to doing these interviews online. I've seen John talk in various online videos.

Hi You did a great George podcast. My top 3 George Albums: 3. 33 1/3 2. Dark Horse 1. Brainwashed. In my opinion, "ATMP" would be hist best if it was just a single vinyl album. I never got into "LITMW" and "Extra Texture". The "George Harrison" album and "Cloud 9" are albums I really enjoy. All other albums are just mediocre. Honestly ... I listen quite often to "Electronic Sound". But that's just my opinion about George Harrisons albums. Take care.
@simplechronology260527 күн бұрын
I know I'm in the minority, but I think "Cloud 9" is his worst album ever (and I thought so when it was released, too). Slick, overproduced, bland playing, very bland songwriting, it is a perfect example of style over substance, except the style wasn't much more than typical late 80's product. It is his least idiosyncratic album and most anonymous album. Fewer than one in 20 fans agree with me, but some do get it...

interesting episode. Much of the guest's information concerning Manson was erroneous and out-of-date. The recent and riveting book Chaos explains everything. Bugliosi made up much of that story and very successfully sold it to the American public.

Great show. Elliot can't half talk, but he does it so well. On the issue of the remixes, imagine if the purists won, and we could only be allowed to hear Caruso, as his distorted voice appears on an old scratchy, hissing 78 wax record?

Very nice discussion on the early Paul solo career first formation of his new band called Wings. I loved the songs you chose for a few of your standout favorites from Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway and, also RAM. I call your choices well thought out and over the years playing those albums, I would agree with you whole heartedly. As fragile as the relationship between Paul and Linda, could not have been such a contrast of talent and fame, and yet, they molded which was definitely painful at times, but now, fans from a few generations since the 70's have seen a shift of great praise and adoration to the point of Paul and Linda equally share Stardom and Fame is a positive light as a couple "Together" and ""Terrific" from a leading edge of Paul and Linda advancement of new members after a three year span for the decade, the musicianship and song-writing giving Wings a cutting edge in pop music with awards and platinum albums in a wide range of themes and promotional records which brought success. new fame and much admiration with musicians who performed many of Wings songs as much as Beatles songs in some cases.

I lived in Adelaide when The Beatles visited and was hooked from that time on. Brought RAM grossly underated at the timewhen it first came out and Eat at Home is one of my favourite PM songs and I Will from The White Album, and it's brilliant Bass line 😊
