ik this video is a bit old, but I have a question. So I'm quite familiar with the fact that if u go into forensic science you don't do everything. My question is, is there a role that works closely with detectives and analyses evidence in a general way? if so, is that what the forensic investigator is? or am I wrong. Loved your vid btw!

In NY they don't allow the criminalist (forensic scientist) on crime scenes anymore. Detectives are all trained in criminalistics now. Criminalist gather and process the physical evidence. There are several departments in the NYC police lab. Trace evidence, drug analysis, questioned documents, firearms, prints and arson. The OCME has toxiocology and DNA analysis which is my forensic science. specialty.

You have to go to med school finish and then choose a pathology or forensic pathology specialty which add another 3 years. So a total of 7 more years of school and maybe more.

Forensic science is listed as one of the top ten most worthless degrees, lol. I find it interesting so I have watched Lectures from the great courses series for personal enrichment. Not something to waste years of your life and many thousands of dollars on. If it interests you spend a month on watching courses simply to get a working knowledge. Or, waste your life on a worthless degree.

By law if you have analysed the evidence and given your expert opinion on it then you can get called to court. You generally get summoned to court if you are involved and they want to talk to you.

Depends on the course you do. Most have prerequisites of specific sciences. I know I’m Australia they require at least two of the sciences (biology, chemistry, or physics) and maths. Most prefer biology and chemistry. I would suggest checking what prerequisites are required for the forensics course you want to take.

There is a reason you can't get a job. Your dumb Australia already traded it's guns and freedom for totalitarian rule, new world order and computer generated A.I. Wake up sheeple. 2nd amendment is about to show the whole world what the definition of marksmanship really means! Australia has been domesticated mentally to self suicide.

You said coroners deal with dead bodies, do they do autopsies? If they do, then what does the medical examiner do? I am interested in pursuing forensics, mainly for the purpose of doing autopsies, I had no idea it was so broad and independent to the other topics.
@nerdstheword

Depending on the country sometimes the coroner can be a medical examiner. But they tend to be the ones that do autopsies. Generally if that’s what your looking at doing, you would also need some sort of medical training.
